Alexander Skarsgård is exhausted. The night before our meeting at New York’s Crosby Street Hotel, he attended a screening for his latest film, Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, which led into a late-night after-party at the Jane. “I’m so hungover,” he says, slouching so deep into a plush armchair that’s almost lying on his back. It’s been a while since the 35-year-old Swedish actor has been allowed to let loose. Since wrapping production on the fourth season of True Blood this summer, he’s filmed two back-to-back movies: What Maisie Knew, a relationship drama costarring Julianne Moore and Steve Coogan, and Disconnect, an ensemble tech-thriller in which he plays Paula Patton’s roving husband.
In the next two days, he’ll fly to Stockholm for a week of rest, and then to Louisiana to start production on The East with Brit Marling, Ellen Page, and Patricia Clarkson. When that wraps, he’ll head straight back into the sexy, sordid world of exsanguination as Eric Northman, television’s most magnetic vampire.

From Bon Temps to Shreveport, Skarsgård's latest bad-guy role is in Straw Dogs

am Peckinpah's Straw Dogs was one of several films released in 1971 (A Clockwork Orange was another) that kicked off a long and loud debate about onscreen violence. The film included a highly disturbing rape scene and ended with an extended and unsparing sequence of bloodshed.
Rod Lurie's remake changes the scene from rural England to the American South, but the gist of the film is the same: A timid husband is forced to use extreme violence to defend his wife and his house against a group of menacing thugs.
The new film stars James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, in roles played by Dustin Hoffman and Susan George in the original. The chief villain in the remake is Alexander Skarsgård, best known as the vampire sheriff in HBO's True Blood
He registered in a small comic role as one of the male models in Zoolander and more recently turned up as the boyfriend in a Lady Gaga music video.

'Blood' star Alexander Skarsgard shows true range in films

NEW YORK – Alexander Skarsgard isn't the first acting hunk to be compared to Brad Pitt.
Like Paul Newman crossed with Brad Pitt: That's how Alexander Skarsgard was described by Rod Lurie, who directed the Swedish actor in 'Straw Dogs,' out Friday.

But the Swede might be one of the few who's up to the task. Known as True Blood's icy-hot Viking vampire, he is preparing to take a bite out of the box office with an impressive slew of flicks.

First up is Friday's remake of Straw Dogs, which transplants the chilling 1971 Dustin Hoffman-led story into the sweaty, close-knit Deep South. Skarsgard, 35, plays local football hero Charlie, whose lust for actress ex-girlfriend Amy (Kate Bosworth) turns violent once she returns home with writer husband David (James Marsden).

have brought Alexander Skarsgård a small jar of pickled herring. It is from Ikea, so not exactly gourmet, but he is gratifyingly appreciative all the same. His face splits into a wide grin as he turns the jar over in his hands. "You went to Ikea?" he says, making me blush like a schoolgirl. "Oh man, thank you. I'm going to have some right now." He unscrews the lid, proffers the jar in my direction and stabs at a piece of fish with his fork. It looks gray and pallid. "Obviously it's better if you pickle them yourself," he says, popping the morsel into his mouth. "I love the purity of the regular stuff, when it's just pickled with herbs and onions. I hate the fruity, sweet varieties."
We are sitting in a spiffy bistro, just off the Bowery in New York's NoHo, and the incongruous presence of a celebrity vampire – Skarsgård's profile in the US rests largely on his role in HBO's lusty drama True Blood – is creating ripples of interest. At 6ft4in and shamelessly handsome, it's hard to ignore him. A young girl interrupts to ask his name. "Alex," he replies, "What's yours?" "Emma," she says, before racing off to confirm to her mother that, yes – it is the man from True Blood. A waiter approaches to congratulate him on the latest episode, before recommending the potato pizza with truffle oil and fontina cheese, a house speciality. We order one between us. There has to be wine, too, though Skarsgård agonises momentarily. "I got here two weeks ago, and I haven't been sober one day since," he says. "It's not like I'm wasted, but every single night there's been something. In LA you have to plan, like, 'All right, next Saturday, let's get drunk and let's not drive – we'll arrange a car.' In Stockholm or New York you go out, you have a late lunch, you end up ordering a bottle of wine, and someone shows up, you order another. I love that, just the flow of it."

First a Vampire, Now a Leading Man: Alexander Skarsgård Can’t Be Tamed

“Use your phone and shine a light over here,” says Alexander Skarsgård, whose indefinitely appropriated Southern twang echoes off the walls inside one of the many vast stages at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles. It’s True Blood’s final day of production before the show’s annual hiatus (they’ll reconvene in November for season five), and the near-empty lot we’ve been wandering feels like a schoolhouse abandoned by its students for the summer. Most of the cast and crew have driven out to Malibu this afternoon to film the pyre-heavy final scene of the HBO series’ fourth season, but Skarsgård and his costar Stephen Moyer have been directed here to re-shoot a close-up. “Follow me,” he says as we edge closer to the darkest part of the hangar-size room. 1digg
“I wish I could find a fucking light switch,” he adds, before eventually flipping one. The chamber we’re in—done up like a dank basement with black columns and intimations of evil—suddenly becomes awash in the glow of overhead lights. “This is where I tortured Lafayette,” he says with a satisfied grin, referring to the show’s second season, in which his character Eric Northman, the sheriff of Area 5, chained Nelsan Ellis’ drug-abusing, cross-dressing fry cook to a post. He waves me through another door into what looks like a nightclub filled with barstools, dusty liquor bottles, and a poster of a vampiric George W. Bush. “Welcome,” he says with exaggerated gravitas, “to Fangtasia!”

Although many New Yorkers heeded Mayor Bloomberg's advice and left town today ahead of Hurricane Irene, True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard opted to keep a lunch date in the East Village to chat about his upcoming thriller, Straw Dogs (out Sept. 16).

True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard paid a visit to Live! with Regis and Kelly this morning, and Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa were appropriately giddy in the presence of the man who plays Gelman’s favorite character on TV. (Pause while you process that.) They hit the standard talking points — he grew up as a child actor in an acting family, he was in the Swedish military, he doesn’t have a problem with nudity. But it was interesting to hear him articulate why he quit acting at the age of 13: “I didn’t like the attention. I didn’t know who I was, so to hear people on TV or on the radio, in newspapers, magazines talking about me and who I was and what I like was kind of confusing.”

'True Blood's' Alexander Skarsgard on living in Texas as a kid !

Hollywood hunk Alexander Skarsgard has revealed he was once bullied for wearing cowboy boots to school.

The 34-year-old True Blood actor has opened up about his days as a young Swedish boy visiting Texas with his father Stellan.

He told Arcade Fire's Win Butler: 'I spent two months in Fredericksburg, Texas, when I was eight, while my father shot a movie and I loved it. I just embraced the whole cowboy culture. I got myself a pair of awesome boots and a cowboy hat. Then I got back to Sweden in September to go back to school, and I was so proud of my cowboy boots.'

Alexander, who plays vampire Eric Northman in the hit TV show, added to Interview magazine: 'I told my mum and my dad, 'I'm going to wear these bad boys to school today, and all the kids are going to love me. I'm going to be the coolest kid in school.' Then I showed up and everyone was like, 'Dude, why are you wearing ladies' boots?' They didn't really work in Sweden. I wore them that one day, and then I ran home and cried and never wore those boots again.'

With his totally convincing American accent and eyes deep as a glacial fjord, Alexander Skarsgård has won over fans of HBO’s True Blood (especially the female ones). Now the Swede is ready for the big screen with three major films opening soon—one of them being Straw Dogs, where he met his current flame, Kate Bosworth. Brett Martin catches up with Skarsgård while whale-watching off the coast of California and the actor opens up about filming love scenes with Anna Paquin, his time spent in the Swedish military, his relationship with his famous father, Stellan Skarsgård, and more. Skarsgård on the love scenes with Anna Paquin - who is married to their True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer:
“It’s really clear to Steve and to everybody else what the deal is—which is that Anna is like a sister to me... Those love scenes take quite a bit of acting, actually. A lot of acting.”

...on why he decided to join the Swedish military:
“It was my way of going off into the unknown,” he says. “I didn’t want to just be somebody’s son.”

...on LA versus his native country:
“You walk into the coffee shop, and the girl asks how your day is. When I first moved here, I loved that. But once you do, you’re in,” he says. And there’s a stronger sense of boundaries. “You’re never going to see a television show The Skarsgårds.”

...on his famous father, actor Stellan Skarsgård:
“I don’t think I came to acting to compete with my father. But, you know, he wasn’t around as much as normal dads, and seeing his passion…Maybe it was a way to get his attention... I mean, if anything, we’re trying to take care of him. He’s over the hill.”

Stellan on Alex and his brothers:
“Of course I’m threatened,” he says of his sons. “They’re younger, they’re better-looking, and they’re all trying to kill me.”

Skarsgard savors Swede success

It looks like there’s a new acting dynasty on the scene — from Sweden.
Actor Stellan Skarsgard has been on Hollywood’s radar for a bit, most recently playing Halle Berry’s therapist in “Frankie and Alice.”
That’s his eldest son Alexander as Eric Northman on “True Blood,” and son Gustaf was in the recent film “The Way Back.”

“Alexander was considered for several consecutive years the sexiest man in Sweden. He’s a very nice guy. But the Swedish film industry is pretty small so he left for the States and got the great role in ‘Generation Kill’ that propelled him into ‘True Blood.’
