A very special True Blood vampire Nazi dinner party

Meredith, Team Talk Blood Radio member extraordinaire's review of Ep2

The second episode of True Blood's third season was pretty heavy. Lots and lots of plot lines and new characters almost drowned the special Nazi vampire reveal. Almost, but not quite. Spoilers ahead.

Whew, this episode had a ton of junk in it. All of it was delightfully insane, but it was damn near impossible to keep up with. Thankfully, no matter how crazy things got, Eric's hungry vampire libido found a way to cut through the bullshit and hit you right where it matters most. In your crotch.

Pro: Some news: True Blood was renewed for a fourth season! Thank goodness our lives will all continue to have meaning.

Pro: Right where we left off from last week, Bill is ripping off the ears of werewolves with his teeth! Ah, Bill you maniac, you.

True Blood: Beautifully Broken With Shelby Lynne

Team Talk Blood Radio ( live Sunday nights after True Blood -podcast links on right) member Jefwithonef posted his fabulous Season 3, Episode 2: "Beautifully Broken" music review

Alan Ball was known for his masterful use of music in Six Feet Under. He's lost none of his touch when it comes to his current HBO series, True Blood - which happens to be set in the Louisiana swamps, not terribly far from Houston.

Season 3 of True Blood is living up to its own hype fairly well, and even though Gothtopia had some deep misgivings about the music when we saw the episode titles list for this season, thus far, we have nothing to complain about.

Reduced down to almost its lowest common denominator, True Blood is about relationships. You'll find the books filed under paranormal romance in many stores. And though the first episode set us up to contemplate the dangers of relationships, and whether or not we are tainted by them, Episode 2 ("Beautifully Broken"), addresses the other side pf that equation.

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) continues to hunt for her missing fiancé Vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer). In doing so, she is incurring the wrath of a sect of secretive Nazi werewolves. (Aside: This episode features a pop-culture cameo by having an appearance by a werewolf woman of the SS. Make the movie, Zombie, and don't argue. End aside.)

Engines rev and trumpets roar
I don't hear your voice no more
And living isn't worth the fear of dying
Wrapped up package torn up clothes
Empty days and deep dark holes
The only thing that keeps a man from crying

Oh if I don't get you back I'll fall upon a railroad track
And let the steel wheels cut right through my bones
Oh if I don't get you back I'll cover up my bloody tracks
With sorrow hopes and hide my dying pride
Oh cause I'm alive

Whispers in a losers dream
Holding on to not a thing
Cause these arms now are paralyzed without you to hold
Bold with crazy have no fear
Children cry and then I hear
The message my lies tell me in my dreams

Oh if I don't get you back I'll fall upon a railroad track
And let the steel wheels cut right through my bones
Oh if I don't get you back I'll cover up my bloody tracks
With sorrow hopes and hide my dying pride
Oh cause I'm alive

Maybe if I caught the rain
In pails that filter out the pain
I'd realize why you had to go
Days of lightning show the way
And night time creeps and holds at bay
The missing you, the mean, the cold, the ugly

Oh if I don't get you back I'll fall upon a railroad track
And let the steel wheels cut right through my bones
Oh if I don't get you back I'll cover up my bloody tracks
With sorrow hopes and hide my dying pride
Oh cause I'm alive

True Blood S3 Episode 2 " Beautifully broken" subtitles

Did you not catch all the great lines from last night's episode?

Pam to Jessica on how to stop herself when feeding "I think about crying children with soggy diapers. Also maggots."

Lafayette to Tara "Look, the Buddhists weren't lying when they said life is suffering."

Sookie and Eric
E "You're going to invite me in so I can protect you.Or have passionate primal sex
with you.How about both?"

S "You're not gonna distract me by talking nasty."

Terry' list for Arlene
Ten reasons why you can trust me with your kids.
Number one: I'm a nurturer.I found a baby armadillo by the side of the road
and I nursed it. Now it sleeps under my bed,and its name is Felix.

Number two: I have a diploma from anger management, where I learned talking about your feelings is the manly thing to do.

Number three: I never killed nothing by accident.

'True Blood': World War II -- now with 90% more vampires

Let's talk vampire politics, shall we?

I mentioned last week that I like "True Blood" more and more the farther it gets from its central conceit: that of a human woman and vampire man falling in love. I found the show's first season, which focused on this relationship to an absurd degree, only fitfully interesting. The second season, which expanded the number of characters and settings the show would visit, was more fun for me, but I still wasn't fully on board with the show as a whole, finding certain elements of the season (particularly anything involving Michelle Forbes) to be several steps too far. The reason I'm liking Season 3 so far has everything to do with how the show has split up its central couple (while keeping them "together," for the Bill and Sookie fans) but also with how it's getting into some pretty bizarre notions of, like, vampire feudalism or something.

True Blood Ep 2 spoilers: bring on the Nazi werewolves !

A few highlights, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:
- -Nazi werewolves! No, seriously. There are several flashbacks to the Second World War, when charismatic Nordic vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard, stealing virtually every scene he's in) is a Nazi officer, fighting the good fight on the side of truth, light and righteous justice.
- -Anna Paquin is marvellous as Sookie Stackhouse, walking so many fine lines it's dizzying to watch. When she tells Eric, "Don't you underestimate me," and he snaps back, "Don't you underestimate yourself," about five different reactions flood across her face. This is refined acting.
- -Jason Stackhouse isn't just dumb. He's a whole other level of dumb. But you already know that.
- -A new character, Russell Edgington, the self-described "Vampire King of Mississippi," rides to Bill Compton's rescue in the middle of the night on a white polo pony, looking ridiculous in a burgundy tuxedo with a New England school crest, muttering pleasantries like, "You drank ... from my guest?"
- -Another new character -- a cursing werewolf who answers to the name "Cooter" -- takes serious offence whenever someone mentions his name out loud. "Call me that again," he seethes, with paranoiac rage: "I (expletive) dare you."

* "Operation Werewolf" refers to an German commando unit which fought at the end of World War II

** Sergeant Kinney", Caucasian or African-American, 20s. Sergeant Kinney appears in a flashback sequence to the German front of World War Two. He is a fresh-faced American soldier who is away from home for the first time. Though he is in a harsh and brutal environment, Sergeant Kinney somehow has a touch of naivete to him. While marching through Nazi Germany, he is approached by a frightened civilian German lady who begs for his help. He goes over to her to see if she is okay, but it turns out that this woman is actually a full-fledged Nazi, and he is met by a sudden attack. PRINCIPLE ROLE

True Blood 3 Ep2 Ask Ausiello spoilers !

Question: The True Blood premiere was awesome. What’s coming up, ahem, necks? —Tyler
Ausiello:
Tee-hee. You swapped next for necks in a question about True Blood. Tee-hee. Here’s some prattle for you, straight from series creator Alan Ball: In the second half of the season, “all hell breaks loose,” he tells my colleague Tim Stack. “Certainly, everybody finds themselves in danger. Loyalties are tested. There’s a lot of deceit.” And though the lies will be spread around, the dots will connect in the end. The stories “do converge,” Ball confirms, culminating in a season finale that he calls “very big. [But] it doesn’t center around one particular event the way the first one did. The first one was all about Rene chasing Sookie. The second one was all about Maryann’s ritual. This [time], there are a lot of big events” leading up to “definitely more than one cliff-hanger.” I’m on the edge of my seat already!
Question: I saw pictures of Allan Hyde at the True Blood premiere. Any chance Godric’s going to return this season (yeah, he died, but you know what I mean)? —Maiyer
Ausiello:
I think there’s a very good chance of him returning. And soon. Know what I mean
