Charlaine Harris favorite books of the Sookie Stackhouse series is ‘All Together Dead’

During  the Q&A iof a Toronto appearance a  fan asks Charlaine Harris what her favorite book in the Sookie Stackhouse series is and she says her overall her favorite was probably ‘All Together Dead’.

California dreamin': True Blood Paleyfest Los Angeles- will you be there ?

We really are all ready: we have tickets to the True Blood Paleyfest panel discussion, airline reservations, our hotel and car rented ... YIPPEE! The lovely Nocturnalinnc and my traveling buddy, ObjectDesire will be traveling in "Team Dallas "

I have been in contact with about 15 others who I know from wiki, the blog or the radio show who will also be there and I am collecting contact info for the various teams and individuals who'd like to maybe meetup with some other fans.

We are planning at least 2 meetups while there, if you are going and want to know about the meetups send me an email !

These are a reference to the first and last line, respectively, of the first verse of the Peter, Paul and Mary song “Leaving on a Jet Plane.

Thanks Flat ! Well, it's a song popularized by Peter, Paul & Mary and from their 1969 album called, Album 1700. It was however, written by John Denver in 1967.

The stanza is:

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go

California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas 1965

All Rhodes lead to : Charlaine Harris sets much of ' All Together Dead' in the city of Rhodes, where is that ?

We have been talking about the Sookieverse fictional city of Rhodes in our discussion of 'Dancers in the Dark' the Charlaine Harris novella about the dancing vampire team, Sean and Layla.

Aside from in the novella, we also see them in the book 'All Together Dead', where as performers from the Blue Moon Productions they dance for and with the guests at the vampire summit. They also dance with Eric and Sookie.




Rhodes is a fictional city but this is what we know about it ...

-'It's way up there by Chicago ' according to Sookie
-It's located on Lake Michigan ( in one of 4 states IL, IN, WI or MI)
-Pyramid of Giza hotel is located there
-You can commute from Rhodes to Chicago ( Glassport pg 73 ATD)
-It's a three hour flight from Shreveport to Rhodes
-Our dancing vampire couple, Sean O'Rourke and Layla LaRue LeMay live in Rhodes.

*The Giza hotel in Rhodes is described as looking an awful lot like the Luxor in Las Vegas.

Sean and Layla the dancing vampire team from Dancers in the Dark and All Together Dead

Wow, Sean and Layla seem to be causing a little stir in the blogosphere...

They only had eyes for each other, and they danced together as if they were gliding through a dream.

Our friends over at Sucker for Vampires blog...posted an article about Sean and Layla in "Dancers" today- now the article is in Portuguese so you'll have to use Google translator here

But in part ,they say "the Dancers in the Dark is my favorite of all!" and we agree !

As you know, Sean is one of the favorite vampires and I like Layla too, so it was a lovely surprise to read that part. Who haven´t read the short stories yet, I really advise you to, and Dancers in the Dark is one of my favorites! In the book Sean even dances with Sookie and Layla dances with Eric!

And Sean helps Sookie to figure out some stuff. But I won´t say much so I don´t ruin the book for anyone.

As the music drew to a conclusion—and to this day, I can’t remember what they danced to—Sean flung Layla back over his arm, bent over her, and bit. I was shocked, but the others seemed to expect it, and it turned them on no little amount. Sophie-Anne smoldered up at Andre (though she didn’t have far to smolder, since he wasn’t much taller than she), and Eric looked down at me with that hot light in his eyes that made me wary.”

Dancers in the Dark - Charlaine Harris Sookieverse novella

This is a great story about the dancing vampires we see in All Together Dead.

The novella was published in 2004 and can be found in the anthology Night's Edge (Harlequin, Oct. 2004, ISBN 0-373-77010-3)
