“It seems really clear to me that Steve was always just as attracted to Jason as his wife was,” McMillian says. “In his eyes, Jason Stackhouse is the guy that Steve really wanted to be. I think he had a really heavy man-crush on him … that might have gone a bit deeper. And I think Steve is more heartbroken that Jason slept with Sarah than he is that Sarah slept with Jason, if you know what I mean. I have my own theories and ideas of what Steve’s been up to off-screen – and I’m sure the fans do, too – and I’m sure the writers will fill that in. But I think the fact that he’s coming back for Jason is linked to that emotional undercurrent he was feeling in Season 2. I have no idea where the show is headed, but it’s great to be back, even just for a few hours on set.”

Gianna: Can you talk about your involvement in the newest True Blood comic book?
Michael: You can ask, but I have to warn you that as the co-writer of an official True Blood story, I may have to keep some secrets.
Gianna: Well what goods are you authorized to share?  We'll take what we can get!
Michael: I was just kidding.  Get ready to be "spoilerized."  I'm giving up the goods!

Gianna: How did it come about that you would be writing for the comic series?
Michael: Pluck and constant pestering, really.  I heard they were making a True Blood comic last spring through Alexander Woo, one of True Blood's talented writers.  I immediately started to plot how I would go about scoring myself a story-arc on the book.  I was in the middle of writing LUCID, my series with Archaia and Zachary Quinto's Before the Door Pictures, so I was eager to keep the ball rolling with other comic projects.  Ultimately, I teamed up with my friend Marc Andreyko, a seasoned comics pro, and we pitched ideas to IDW.  I also sent Alan Ball a live panda.  It seems the bribe worked and now Marc and I are writing the comic.

The actor who plays Steve Newlin is saying we'll see he and Sarah again in True Blood. I remember him being with the guy that attacks Sookie in Club Dead but do we ever see or hear from the Newlin's again after that in the books ?

We meet the Newlin's in bk 2 'Living Dead in Dallas' and he is the one who is in 'Club Dead' when Sookie is staked.

We don't see them again but Sookie does think of them and the Fellowship ( see quotes below). The threat and influence of the Fellowship of the Sun does reemerge in the later books but we have yet to see the Newlin's again. I bet we will !

"I've been told he'll be back," actor Mike McMillian, who plays Reverend Steve, told MTV News of his character.

Though the actor doesn't know when he and costar Anna Camp will return, he has a few theories about how things might go down. This kind of fits the Steve ibn Club Dead storyline.

Bk 3 Club Dead
Somehow, in the melee, my eyes met those of the taller man, and we recognized each other. He was G. Steve Newlin, former leader of the Brotherhood of the Sun, a militant anti-vampire organization whose Dallas branch had more or less bit the dust after I'd paid it a visit. He was going to tell them who I was, I just knew it, but I had to pay attention to what the man with the stake was doing. I was staggering around on my heels, trying to keep my feet, when the assassin finally had a stroke of brilliance and transferred the stake from his pinned right hand to his free left. With a final punch to my back, Steve Newlin dashed for the exit, and I caught a flash of creatures bounding in pursuit. I heard lots of yowling and tweeting, and then the black-haired man threw back his left arm and plunged the stake into my waist on my right side


Book 5 Dead as a Doornail
Actually, the Fellowship had quite a bit against me. I'd been responsible for their huge Dallas church being raided and one of their main leaders going underground. The papers had been full of what the police had found in the Fellowship building in Texas. Arriving to find the members dashing in turmoil around their building, claiming vampires had attacked them, the police entered the building to search it and found a basement torture chamber, illegal arms adapted to shoot wooden stakes into vampires, and a corpse. The police failed to see a single vampire. Steve and Sarah Newlin, the leaders of the Fellowship church in Dallas, had been missing since that night. I'd seen Steve Newlin since then. He'd been at Club Dead in Jackson.
He and one of his cronies had been preparing to stake a vampire in the club when I'd prevented them. Newlin had escaped; his buddy hadn't. It appeared that the Newlins' followers had tracked me down. I hadn't foreseen such a thing, but then, I'd never foreseen anything that had happened to me in the past year. When Bill had been learning how to use his computer, he'd told me that with a little knowledge and money, anyone could be found through a computer.

Maybe the Fellowship had hired private detectives, like the couple who had been in my house yesterday. Maybe Jack and Lily Leeds had just been pretending to be hired by the Pelt family? Maybe the Newlins were their real employers? They hadn't struck me as politicized people, but the power of the color green is universal.

Bk 6 Definitely Dead
But one of Arlene's customers yelled for her, and she was definitely glad to walk away. My eyes met Sam's, and we looked equally troubled. The Fellowship of the Sun was an antivampire,antitolerance organization, and its influence was spreading. Some of the Fellowship enclaves were not militant, but many of them preached hatred and fear in its most extreme form. If the Fellowship had asecret underground hit list, I was surely on it. The Fellowship founders, Steve and Sarah Newlin, had been driven out of their most lucrative church in Dallas because I'd interfered with their plans. I'd survived a couple of assassination attempts since then, but there was always the chance the Fellowship would track me down and ambush me. They'd seen me in Dallas, they'd seen me in Jackson, and sooner or later they'd figure out who I was and where I lived.I had plenty to worry about.

It's interesting you say that, because getting into "True Blood," I can see some things Blanche and Sarah have in common.

Yeah! I didn't even think of that, but definitely. They're both these Southern women who have this idea of what it means to be a Southern belle. And sort of, revolting against that but feeling confined by that ... that's true! I didn't even think of that. But they definitely have similarities.

The interesting thing about Sarah is that she's a really high powered woman in a lot of ways, and very intelligent, but she keeps on trying to be the woman behind the man rather than just coming out of her own shell. And she seems to resent that in time with Steve, so it'd be interesting to see her come out as a leader, what do you think?

I know, I would love to see her totally break away from the Fellowship of the Sun or take over the Fellowship of the Sun. You know, and really see what she can do, because I think now that she feels betrayed by Jason and her husband - because her husband didn't give her all the information about the war and everything - I think she could really take over and go crazy. (Laughs) Or I would like to see her really lose all faith in God and go searching for her own path, and find her own world, and really hit bottom before she can rise up out of it again. So I think there's great potential for the character, I hope that the writers think so too.

Oh I think they do. They gave you more and more to do as the show went on, probably because your portrayal of Sarah was interesting because there was a lot going on under the surface. She seemed on the surface to be a typical preacher's wife and then there's all these little things that came out. She became a very three dimensional character as the story went on. I think a lot of people would love to see more from her and maybe see her with Jason down the road to see what happens.

Yeah, I hope something really crazy happens to her. It's funny you say that, Alan Ball actually when we were first shooting he said that he had this idea of what Sarah was, and how it was pretty black and white. And how she was pretty dead set against the vampires, and just wanted to seduce Jason purely because she wasn't attracted to her husband anymore. They did say that through watching what I was doing with each episode, they began to make it more real and make her really believe that she was lost and needed to find love again and she was doubting everything that she had known for the past ten years, being with her husband. It's cool you noticed that.

The Fellowship of the Sun was actually really developed well, and I think the whole thing with Sarah and that she used to be a sympathizer to vampires. I think that was one of the most interesting things to come out of that storyline, because it was so how Sookie or someone else could go if things went a little wrong. That's what made her a more complicated character than some of the others.

Exactly, you don't know what you're capable of believing if something happens to you personally. And you want to go off on revenge or try to make something right, but when something happens to you personally ... how your beliefs change and how you put these blinders on. It's something that could happen to anybody in the world, and I think they did a good job of showing that Sarah is not just this spiteful power-hungry woman but she's definitely hurt and lost and looking for answers.

Absolutely and when Sookie got there and Sarah was very sympathetic to her, and almost wanted to save her from what was happening, and that was again a redeeming quality about her character.

I'm just so thankful that they gave me a three dimensional character to play, and I had the best time working on that show, so I'm glad you like it. I'm really excited especially for the last two episodes.

Oh good so we do see the Newlins again!

Nooo, well, I can't really ... (laughs). I can't really say that. But I love the show.

But you were a fan of the show before you got cast right?

Yes, I actually just did this interview and they asked me how I got involved, I actually auditioned for Sookie!

Can you give us any spoilers about whether the Church will have a role in next season?

Well I can't really, but I think it would be crazy if we didn't come back because the Fellowship is such a strong group. If we just sort of vanished and our whole cause was just sort of done and gone I don't think that would make much sense. I'd like to see us come back, and I think it would make sense to have us come back. We could either tie it up or we could be fighting the vampires. The vampires need to have that force to be fighting against, to live in society and be fighting against something besides other supernaturals is part of the show I think, that sort of balance.

I think one of the major parts of the show is actually the human hatred of vampires and the fear of vampires, more than the supernatural elements. The Fellowship kind of represents that.

Yeah I do too. I think that it's such an interesting concept because you go back to all the metaphors of what the vampires are representing in society today ... any minority or gay people or anything like that. And I think to have that force looking down upon it really creates an interesting and dynamic story. I'd like to have that back (laughs) for more than one reason!

(Laughs) I think we'd all like that too. I was watching a scene recently, it's the one with Jason's fantasy of Sarah when he was starting to look at her in a different way and she's cooking....

Oh (laughs) right yeah!

Was that hard to shoot? There are so many funny things that happen with Sarah and Jason, I can't imagine keeping a straight face for that!

It was crazy and it was all improv, I improv'ed all of that! So the director Michael Raymond that day and Alan Ball wrote that episode, all it said in the script was Sarah licks barbeque off her finger, that's it! And they said they wanted me to ... they had the music blaring and they were like 'just dance.' We did it a couple of times and then they were like 'we're going to make it like his fantasy, so just go all out! Go go go, go farther then you think you'd ever go.' And I was like 'really?!' There's a lot of stuff they didn't use that I was just like laughing and breaking up I'm sure, because it was definitely a funny fun way over the top scene to shoot. I'm happy that they picked out a couple of moments I didn't even know they were going to use.

I watch the show with a whole group of people and we're all really into it, and when you did the last line 'I hate your hair!' we all burst out laughing.

I'm glad, I'm glad you thought it was funny! I love the dynamic and working with Michael McMillian, and he's really funny too. We sort of clicked and I think he plays his character very well.

TRUE BLOOD Actor Preaches Love of Comics & Joins the Ranks

Actor Mike McMillian may have a few successful TV shows under his belt, but he's a little intimidated by the challenge of selling a comic book.

As the Rev. Steve Newlin on the HBO television series True Blood, McMillian plays a character who is totally dedicated to saving humanity from vampires. But the actor behind the role is more interested in making comic books. A reader since childhood who actually considered a comics career while pursuing acting, McMillian is getting the chance to write his first comic thanks to a friendship with Star Trek and Heroes star Zachary Quinto.

As announced at Comic-Con International: San Diego, Quinto and his company, Before the Door Pictures, is developing comic books in a partnership with publisher Archaia Comics. And among their first releases is Lucid, a four-issue mini-series written by McMillian that is set to debut in comic shops in summer 2010.

Newsarama talked to McMillian to find out more about why he's so interested in comics and how he thinks Lucid will fit into the comic book landscape.

Newsarama: Mike, a lot of people will know you as Steve on True Blood, but you've got to have a lot of people recognizing you as Henry from What I Like About You. It seems like that show's always on in reruns.

True Blood’s Michael McMillian (Rev. Steve Newlin) attended Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego last week, but he was not present at the True Blood panel. Michael had another reason to be there. Saturday afternoon he attended the Archaia Studios Panel where Zachary Quinto (Heroes and Star Trek) announced that his company, Before the Door Productions, is partnering with comic book publisher Archaia Studios to launch a series of new comic book projects.

The first two books to arise from this deal are M. Murder is Dead, written by Victor Quinaz, and Lucid, written by Michael McMillian. Quinto and his partners, Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa, helped develop the two stories and remained heavily involved in all aspects of production.

True Blood's Christian Conservative Vampire-Hater Speaks Out

We interviewed True Blood's vigilant vampire hater, played by Michael McMillian, and learned a little more about the Fellowship Of The Sun's televangelist golden boy, who says he's a cross between George Bush and Bruce Wayne.

We got the chance to chat via email with actor Michael McMillain, and learn a lot more vampire-loathing character, Steve Newlin, who's really a complicated enigma, combining fanaticism with a sense of compassion. There's even a bit of a King Arthur sprinkled into the fold of this character's persona.

What do you think this great character Steve Newlin? He appears to have it all put together, but there's got to be something looming underneath it all (as is the way with all things True Blood).

This is why Steve's a fascinating character to me. He is a living ideology. It's like trying to figure out who [George W.] Bush really was, in some ways. Like, did he really think he was a hero? Did he really think he was a great Christian? Steve repeatedly speaks in terms of black and white — this "with us or against us" terminology we were so accustomed to hearing over the past decade. Is it all just bullshit? It's almost archaic in this modern day and age. I talked to Alan Ball and the writers about where Steve is coming from, and we all agreed on the same thing: he is absolutely being true to himself. He believes everything he says. He's driven by what he was raised to believe in and his conviction that his father was murdered by agents of evil. In some way's he's like Bruce Wayne. He's setting out to ensure that what happened to his family won't happen to anyone else. And, I mean, he has a point. Look what happened to Jessica. That scene in the first season, when she was kidnapped and turned, was a nightmare. So I'm not sure how troubled he really is, beyond the fact he's troubled by the growing acceptance and tolerance of Vampires.

Vampire-basher in ‘True Blood’ has ties to Houma

Every week when Wes Brown morphs into Luke McDonald, a competitive ex-football player hell-bent on oppressing Louisiana vampires as part of HBO’s sultry hit series, “True Blood.” It’s such an original show,” Brown said. “It’s by far the most original thing I’ve ever worked on. There’s nothing like ‘True Blood’ on television right now.”

Protesting vampires could be new turf for the young actor, but the show’s mystical Louisiana setting is familiar ground.

The 27-year-old Brown was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but grew up in Baton Rouge, where he lived from infancy through his college graduation from Louisiana State University.

Brown moved to Los Angeles in 2005, but his family ties remain in south Louisiana. He has relatives in Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Raceland and Houma, including his uncle, Houma lawyer Paul Brown.

We see this clip in episode 3 when Jason is watching TV late at night . The actress is Kelli Maroney and she is a female B movie horror film star as well as Soap star ( Ryan's Hope ) .

Kelli Maroney is best known for her film roles were in the 1982 comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High as a cheerleader named Cindy, the 1984 science fiction movie Night of the Comet as Samantha Belmont; as well as two low-budget slasher films, The Zero Boys (1985) as Jamie, and Chopping Mall
(1986) as Alison.

In an interview with Maroney was featured in Jewel Shepard's Invasion of the B-Girls, a non-fiction book comprised of Q&A's with popular scream queens.
