True Blood: season two ends tonight, and it's been worth every crazy bite
It's the final episode of True Blood's second season tonight for those who are following it on FX – and it's been a rollicking ride. Everything was bigger, better and bolder than the first series, and explaining it to an outsider suddenly became a near-impossible task: "So there's a mythological creature, the townsfolk are having orgies and dancing a lot, and there's a shape-shifter, who is hanging out with an alcoholic ex-detective who keeps seeing a pig." It makes sense when you watch it, of course, but that's the pleasure of True Blood – its gleeful lack of concern for understatement, propriety and doing things by halves.
This sheer insanity is part of what has made season two a whole lot better than the first, bar a few pacing hiccups towards the end of the run. Shifting the focus away from the romance between Sookie and Bill was a smart move, because their will-they-won't-they-oh-they-did storyline ran out of steam fairly early in series one, and there's only so much bloodied bodice-ripping any viewer can take. Giving bad-boy vampire Eric more screen time, and cutting his Kurt Cobain locks into a sharper, male model 'do, was a masterstroke – as was using Bill's sort-of daughter Jessica for more than just comic relief. Moving some of the action away from Bon Temps, to Dallas and to the Fellowship of the Sun's training camp, also livened things up a treat. Suddenly it wasn't just a vampire show, it was a comedy, drama and satire, too.

True Blood' stuntwoman dies after crash
A stuntwoman who had worked on shows such as True Blood and CSI has died after a motorcycle crash.
April Stirton was riding her motorcycle west on US Highway 101 on Tuesday morning when she attempted to pass a tow-truck, The AP reports.
She was going about 55 mph when she lost control, fell off her bike and was struck by the back wheels of the tow-truck.
The former acrobat died at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported.

Charlaine Harris is unimpressed by True Blood Season 2 Voodoo sub-plot
Charlaine Harris has admitted that she is not keen on some of True Blood's sub-plots.
Harris, the author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, praised show creator Alan Ball for staying "true to the spirit of the books", but said that she was less impressed with some of the minor stories.
"There have been some sub-stories that I wasn't as nuts about as others, but there hasn't been anything I've really hated," she told Digital Spy.
"I wasn't too keen on the voodoo story, but I see now why they introduced it in the second season. Once I saw it, it all made sense."
She added: "The plot has been altered quite a bit and there's more material that I didn't write because they're having to bring in the secondary characters and buff them up.
"There are some great differences, but as Alan promised me, he is staying true to the spirit of the books - and that's what I wanted."

The Southern Gothic Brilliance Of True Blood
Who knew that regal southern gentlemen vampires and demure human ladies could make for the greatest show to hit HBO in quite some time? Getting geared up for a third season, fans are buzzing about what could possibly happen this time around. So far, the series has managed to make household names (and major crushes) out of random Swedish actors, revived Alan Ball’s relevance, and provided spin-off potential for everything from soda to new versions of the books that the series is based on in the first place.
There are a number of reasons that “True Blood” is one of the best things to hit satellite tv in quite some time. First, it manages to appeal to people looking for very different things in an HBO series. Those who want the fantastic and the slightly gloomy will be really into the vampire back story as well as the crumbling Gothic southern homes being filmed expertly by Alan Ball. Fans of camp and kitsch will love the show’s funnier moments, with a fast-talking and truly sassy gay drug dealer stealing every scene he’s in, and markedly hilarious exchanges between midlevel vampires and higher-up sheriffs. “True Blood” is also one of those shows where those who need to swoon at romance can do so right next to partners who are more interested in gory fights or more racy scenes of romance.

True Blood: Best of list #37
I’m not big on 10 best lists. I’d rather salute 10 favorites for the past year. Here are the 10 scripted series that provided me with the most entertainment:
1. “Mad Men” continues to set the standard for TV drama with its sharp writing, nuanced acting and vivid period detail. And it taught a valuable lesson: Don’t take a riding lawn mower to the office. (January Jones and Jon Hamm are pictured.)
2. “The Good Wife” is a superb CBS drama with a winning leading lady (Julianna Margulies), a top-flight supporting cast and an engrossing style. This freshman entry just gets better each week.
3. “True Blood” is television’s best vampire series. Its stellar second season featured fierce contributions from Alexander Skarsgard as the sexy, underhanded vampire Eric; Michelle Forbes as the mischief-making, orgy-throwing Maryann; and Ryan Kwanten as the surprisingly heroic Jason. Of course, Anna Paquin remains the show’s vital center as lovable, mind-reading heroine Sookie Stackhouse.
10. “The Vampire Diaries” for being TV’s second best vampire series and for showing there is life in the struggling CW.

True Blood : Top TV Picks of 2009

As 2009 begins to wind down, I figured now was the perfect time as any to look back at the series that that have entertained and inspired me over the past calendar year.
And what a year it was for the television industry, which was (and is) still recovering from the writers strike of 2007/08. This past year also saw NBC box up the 10 pm hour for scripted programming, a move that hasn't had quite the effect that the network hoped (I do feel for poor scapegoat Jay Leno), while sending viewers scurrying over to cable, which continued to make huge inroads this year.
True Blood (HBO)
In its second season, HBO's vampire drama True Blood went from being a guilty pleasure to a series that balanced the outright campy with the truly transcendent. By pushing supporting players such as Alexander Skarsgard's Eric, Rutina Wesley's Tara, Sam Trammel's Sam, Nelsan Ellis' Lafayette, Deborah Ann Woll's Jessica, and Allan Hyde's Godric to the foreground, creator Alan Ball and the series' writers deepened the universe of Bon Temps and gave True Blood some of its most heartbreaking and compelling moments with the suicide of Eric's maker Godric and the doomed relationship between Woll's Jessica and Jim Parrack's Hoyt. There are few series that are as gleefully unpredictable than True Blood, a series that rewrites the rules about storytelling while spinning a bloody good yarn.

'True Blood'
Let's just get the obvious out of the way: this show doesn't suck.
Instead, let's focus on what made this show so bloody good this season: stories and characters that have bite to them, as well as lots of sex and violence served up among the residents of the steamy Louisiana town of Bon Temps.
In a year that continued the "Twilight" craze of vampires as sexy, misunderstood loners, "True Blood" featured a "good versus evil" battle in which it was hard to tell the good from the evil -- the blood-suckers or the cracked Christian cult out to destroy them.
Sookie (Anna Paquin) continued to heat things up with Bill (Stephen Moyer), a relationship made even more thrilling for "True Blood" worshippers given that the actors are engaged in real life. But they weren't the only passionate pair -- Jason (Ryan Kwanten), Sookie's less-than-bright brother, managed to hook up with Sarah (Anna Camp), wife of the leader of the Fellowship of the Sun church, for some graphic action that became water-cooler fodder.
The healthy serving of gore, mystery and soap-opera-like shenanigans led New York Magazine to dub the show "cable catnip." Meow!
