La cameriera Sookie Stackhouse sta attraversando un periodo decisamente sfortunato. Innanzitutto, un suo collega viene assassinato e sembra che a nessuno importi della cosa, poi si viene a trovare faccia a faccia con una creatura bestiale che le assesta una sferzata dolorosa e velenosa. A questo punto, entrano in campo i vampiri, che le succhiano il veleno dalle vene (come se non aspettassero altro!)
