Celebrity Interviewer Knows More About True Blood Than She's Letting On

What ?? Dont give me any crap about posting this - we gotta know this kind of stuff

A tipster pointed out that the scribe of today NY Post's puff piece on Stephen Moyers failed to disclose that she and the True Blood star have a child together. How does our tipster get this juicy info?

Because Lorien Haynes (pictured) was the subject of a Star article last week along the lines of "A Hollywood Starlet Stole My Boyfriend!"

It was love at first, um, bite for Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer after the British hunk aced his True Blood audition opposite the Oscar winner in early 2007, but they kept their instant attraction a secret from everyone, including his girlfriend of seven years - the mother of his young daughter, Lilac.

That September, Stephen told a British newspaper that his move from London to L.A. for the series had resulted in the end of his relationship with British journalist Lorien Haynes, saying: "Nobody has left anybody for anybody else." But those words ring hollow now that Stephen and Anna - who now live together - have admitted that sparks flew the moment they first met!

For what it's worth, Haynes also interviewed Paquin for the Daily Mail, which ran the story yesterday also without any disclaimer, and did not sound very jilted:

Sexual chemistry is arguably what has made True Blood such a success. Anna's Sookie falls for Bill Compton, a vampire whose thoughts she cannot read, played by British actor Stephen Moyer (Ny-Lon, Lilies, Quills). While filming the first series, Anna and Stephen developed a real-life relationship, which they tried to keep quiet. When they eventually went public it was, says Anna, ‘the worst kept secret on the planet'.

Obviously, once again, The Star has things all wrong. There was no 'jilting', Moyer and Ms. Haynes had been apart for some time before he met Anna. Moreover, they all get along and do what's best for the child. I don't see why it's necessary to try to make more out of a situation than is there.

NO one is picking up on what I'm interested in - why didn't she tell her readers in the NY Post that she is closely connected to her subjects.

I could give a rats ass about what the state of his previous relations was in on the date that he met Anna and I'm pleased that everyone is happy and that they seem to have a nice relationship and he is really good to his kids ...BUT I do not really care about the personal lives of actors and I only care about the TB stars when they effect TB news in general.

But who is doing the reporting on these actors and what's her connection ?

Yesterday The New York Post ran a profile on Stephen Moyers, who plays vampire Bill Compton on “True Blood.” According to Defamer, the paper failed to note that the interviewer, Lorien Haynes, is, uh, Moyers’ ex-girlfriend and baby mama. In a recent issue of Star, Haynes was revealed as Moyers ex and mother to his daughter Lilac in a piece titled, “‘True Blood’s Secret Love Triangle.” It quotes Moyers saying of their breakup, “Nobody has left anybody for anybody else.” Considering Moyers and his co-star Anna Paquin have made no attempt to hide the fact that sparks flew the moment they met on set, who knows how true that statement really is.

So while it’s majorly odd that Haynes profiled her ex for a story—and didn’t mention their relationship—it’s even weirder that she also interviewed Paquin for a story which ran in the Daily Mail U.K. yesterday as well. Seriously, why is Haynes on the permanent “True Blood” beat? Isn’t this a conflict of interest and also a wee bit psycho? [Defamer]

I'm surprised that the Daily Fail and the Post wouldn't have capitalized on that connection considering they are basically tabloids themselves.

I don't know that full disclosure necessarily is required here, and it is strange.

Andrea Mitchell on NBC, is married to Alan Greenspan. She didn't announce this every time she appeared on Meet the Press to discuss national issues which often included decisions her husband made in his official capacity. Why should this woman disclose her relationship with SM, when it is public knowledge if anyone looks a bit?

Dallas,
I'm with you 100%. Journalistic standards require that the reporter reveal any connection that they have to the subject(s) of the article, if only to alert the reader of any possible bias. For example, watch a segment on the ABC Evening News about anything Disney, and the reporter will point out that ABC is owned by Disney. The viewer will know that there exists a potential reason for the report to have a "spin" on it, which may be favorable to Disney. Failure to mention the relationship gives the appearance of impropriety, even when none exists.
This would apply even to articles in which it is clear that the reporter has an opinion on the subject, such as an Op-Ed piece in a newspaper. The reader cannot make an informed decision on the content of the report, without having this information.
I hope that this is a wake-up call to all your readers, not just for articles related to True Blood specifically, but to the media in general.
In the specific case of True Blood, for example, we've read press releases, which have been written by HBO or one of its contractors. It's critical the reader is made aware of the source of the material. As an example, there would be no reason for HBO to report bad news about the production, writing, personal interaction of the actors and crew.
Since most bloggers are not journalists by profession, they may not realize the importance of revealing any connection that they might have, as well. This might be such situations where they are related to someone on staff, or are representing a fan club. This doesn't necessarily mean that the reporter has written a biased piece, only that the potential is there, and the reader needs to be aware of it.

You don't have to do anything every time and if the world knows SM ex's name as well as they know Andrea Mitchell and who her husband is then I am simply the one that uninformed.

I think she should have said who she was Mydog, if you don't think she should disclose that when she writes about Moyers ( at least for a while until its considered general knowledge)then that's OK, that's you opinion.

Thanks Rose - I try not to be opinionated on the blog -mostly I only express me opinions in my comments but that knowledge REALLYYYYY changes a readers take on these articles. Especially when the "reporter" is asking about their sex lives, first dates, them having sex and plans for children.

I can certainly see now why Alan Ball insisted they keep their relationship secret ...this could easily have been really distracting especially in the shows first year.
