True Blood in Texas: Stephen Moyer Gives Us a Taste

From TV Guide

As brooding vampire Bill Compton, British actor Stephen Moyer is right at the center of the bloodthirsty buzz surrounding HBO's hit True Blood (Sundays at 10 pm/.ET). Not a bad place to be, right?

Not so fast. Moyer's character virtually disappears in the third of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, on which the show is based. And while series creator Alan Ball is clearly creating his own path (see the non-death of Book 1 casualty Lafayette on the show), shouldn't Moyer worry a little? Nah.

"That gives Alan the opportunity to invent something," Moyer tells TVGuide.com. "Just like last season with the V trips — they had to invent that. And they're very good at it. So I'm confident that however they keep him there, they'll make Bill's story interesting."

That's not to say his arc this season hasn't given him plenty to sink his teeth into. Bill's playing daddy to a newborn bloodsucker, while also trying to keep afloat his turbulent relationship with Sookie (Anna Paquin), who is increasingly being eyed by Bill's sheriff, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). Moyer promises that the road trip to Texas will reveal much more about who Eric was (and is) and further flesh out the vampire world.

"Toward the end of the season, we're going to see the hierarchy taken almost to its peak," he says. "We're going to meet the monarchy, if you will. Last year, we met the grand judge of Louisiana, and this year we're going to meet the monarch of Texas. But he's not the monarch of America. It's kind of an almost feudal system. I love the idea of this incredibly detailed society in which manners are very important as to how you relate to people that are above you.

Having read the books, I was starting to wonder if Alan Bell was going to break up Sookie and Bill like Charlaine Harris does. I stopped reading her books, btw. Love the series, but will stop watching, too, if that happens.

A word to the wise.

You just have to give it time, when
the show has to write stories for the other actors things take time.
I am pretty sure we will get season
3,the show is just too good not to.

The books are amazing. Charlaine is a great writer and a wonderful person. These books are about SOOKIE! She has many relationships. Having her with one guy is dull. I'm an Eric fan but I would not stop watching the show or reading the books if things don't work out with them.

“Moyer giddily cackles at the mere thought of an upcoming plot twist he can’t bring himself to spoil. “You wait, you wait,” he laughs. “You won’t believe it.”

Notice that Stephen also talked about the vamp hierarchy. I think Bill’s position in the vamp hierarchy may end up getting bumped up much higher. At the end of Book 1, Bill became Area 5’s Investigator. Now remember when Eric told him this on the phone in Epi 2×04: “You should remember that I am your sheriff, Bill. We are not equal. And if that displeases you, take it up with the Magister or the Queen.”

I have a strong feeling that Bill will do some talking and campaigning and he’ll end up in a stronger position so he won’t back down to Eric as much in the future. Oh the possibilities! Stephen mentioned a plot twist, so get ready for whatever Alan Ball has in store for us. He’s going to keep it entertaining for both vamp camps.

I’m totally Team Eric and I am looking very forward to seeing the Eric and Sookie relationship unfold and acted out on my screen. Alan Ball needs to keep both camps happy so even if Sookie is with Eric for some time, she’ll most likely end up with Bill again. Bill won’t be going anywhere. The show would be boring to keep Sookie with Bill all the time or with Eric all the time. I do wonder if Alan Ball will throw Alcide and Quinn into the mix. Will Alan Ball’s Sookie end up having Alcide as a sexual partner too since he wasn't in the book series? Hmmm...we have to wait and see. And for those already threatening to stop watching, it'll be your loss.

*SPOILER*

I think the love triangle needs to happen for all the viewers and it would be boring w/o it. I hope they stay with the spirit of the books with that. But I do like the additions of Jessica and the SAVING OF Lafayette. I totally get why AB did that, because Nelsan Ellis rocks as an actor.

I will say again I do hope Pam gets more air time, and she does in the books as she and Sookie develop quite a good sisterly bond, even for Pam LOL.

Don't stop reading the books they are good, even if I didn't really like Book's 8 and 9, I thought they opened to many story lines and not enough closure and I was very sad to see Claudine die.

Well I think just with the fact that Bill was ordered by the Queen to look after Sookie and seduce if necessary to gain her trust, that this is something Eric doesn't know quite yet but will and this is how in the Books Eric wins favor with Sookie.

The Truth kills sometimes.

Anyway SM did a good job vamping up the mystery of AB work LOL.
