Author Heather Brewer was a self proclaimed outcast in high school, and she wrote the Vlad Tod series as a way to reach out to kids on the fringes of high school life. Her fans, called MINIONS, have mobilized around the series, travelling hundreds of miles to meet Heather and make friends with one another. Heather has even organized alternative proms for her fans.
