Why TV Vampires Make Better Boyfriends Than Their Fictional Counterparts

If you are a single male television character who is having trouble attracting the woman of your dreams, there is a simple solution: become a vampire. It may seem counterintuitive. After all, no woman has ever written, “I am seeking a serial killer who will always be fighting his urge to mutilate me,” on her match.com profile. There would seem to be many disadvantages to dating a vampire. First of all, he can only go out at night. No romantic walks on the beach for him. Second, he can never order anything at restaurants. That could be awkward. Third, the damsel must sleep with one eye open at all times lest he succumb to his urge to suck every ounce of blood out of her body or, worse, stand by her bed for hours watching her sleep. That is creepy, not romantic, Edward Cullen!

So why are the undead considered so damn sexy? And why vampires, specifically? No one is hot for zombies. Academics argue that being bitten is a literary metaphor for sex, specifically loss of virginity. The obsessive nature of vampire lust also makes him an appealing fantasy. Nothing is more important to a vamp than the object of his obsession. A vampire would never blow off a girl to play fantasy football with his boys. Actual baseball, maybe, but only if he is one of those wussy Cullens. Every TV vampire — even Nick Knight from Forever Knight – is cooler than the Cullens. In fact, TV vampires are consistently better boyfriends than their mortal fictional counterparts. Consider the evidence as we compare and contrast them below. And remember, once you go vampire, you’ll always aim higher.

Child star Anna Paquin is all grown-up in hit vampire drama True Blood

SEXY Anna Paquin might be TV's raunchiest vampire lover - but film fans will remember her best as the schoolgirl star of The Piano.

Her role as waitress Sookie Stackhouse in Channel 4's critically acclaimed new drama True Blood sees her cavorting naked for red hot love scenes with a vampire.

But rather than blushing about it, at 27 Anna thinks she's got nothing to be shy about.

She laughed: "It would be really stupid if it was one of those shows where the couple who do it all the time were constantly being draped with sheets so that you don't see a nipple or wear bras during sex.

"Maybe some people do but that's just not been my experience.

"Maybe because I was a kid actor, nobody expects me to do those kind of scenes but it's a big part of our show."

Anna, who became the second youngest Oscar winner for her role as Flora McGrath in The Piano, admits that, even when she's got her clothes on, there's not a lot of them as her waitress's uniform consists of hotpants and a tight T shirt.

True Blood averages 12.4 million per episode across platforms in second season

The audience base for HBO’s red-hot vampire drama “True Blood” offers a good illustration of how viewing is changing.

According to HBO, the series’ sophomore season, which wrapped Sept. 13, averaged 12.4 million viewers per episode, when measured across various viewing platforms. But only 24% of those viewers came for the show’s premiere 9 p.m. Sunday telecasts.

Some 37% of “True Blood’s” true-blue fans caught reruns on HBO and its themed channels throughout the week, while 21% watched via DVR playback and 18% watched on the HBO on Demand platform. It’s telling that the percentage of on-demand viewing climbed significantly from the show’s first season, when it was 13%, while the rerun viewing dropped sharply, from 56% in season one.

I have been watching True Blood since it premiered, unlike some of the legions of never-see-come-sees out there and while I have never read a single Charlaine Harris book yet—surprisingly. I have skimmed them in a book store and I do think that I would enjoy them very much. About as much or even more than I enjoy the shows which are very entertaining. I also watched and enjoyed all seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so go figure that I would jump at the creation of a new vampire show. I may not be at all Gothic and stuff but I do love imaginative story-lines and great characters. Ok, and I might be slightly, admittedly emo too. I’ve come to that realization. ‘I am one lucky lady’ Magnolia author discusses her Southern Vampire books, HBO series ‘True Blood’

No vampires appeared Thursday evening, but aficionados of the popular Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris of Magnolia did show up for the South Arkansas Community College Lecture Series to hear the author speak.

“I am one lucky lady. I get to do what I like to do,” that’s how author Charlaine Harris described herself. During her hour-long lecture and question/answer time, Harris entertained as well as informed the comfortably-filled SouthArk Gym with glimpses of her day of writing, her characters and the HBO hit series “True Blood.”

Per Ball, the episode she was supposed to appear in had reached capacity story-wise. “It was the show that could not be contained,” he explains. “Unfortunately, Lois was a causality of that. Bloody Cool: Vampire-Inspired Interiors

Shelter Pop looks at Bill's house decorating skills

I'm officially hooked. After a friend tipped me off to the Swedish vampire film, Let The Right One In, I realized I've been watching a lot of vampires, both on the small and big screens. Specifically, I'm one of the many that tune into HBO's True Blood, based on the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

And I couldn't help but notice vampire Bill Compton's good taste. As a decorator, he's actually pretty good. He seems to have gotten the Southern Gothic look just right (John Derian would sure be proud), mixing antiques in a not-too precious way. He also seems to be really good at lighting (not too bright!), and has a great collection of ancestral portraits and velvet-upholstered sofas -- very George Smith. And is that a Moroccan Berber rug I spotted in Episode Two?
