This morning’s mail brought an advance copy of “Dead in the Family” by Charlaine Harris (Ace Books, $25.95), the 10th novel in her “Southern Vampire” series starring Sookie Stackhouse.
Long before “Twilight,” Harris found a niche, and a new curve, in vampire fiction, basing her stories in Bon Temps, La., a small Southern town in an alternate universe, where the Japanese have invented artificial blood and the vampires have come out in the open — or come out of the coffin, so to speak.

Everyone thinks this means that you're not going to be on 'True Blood.'
That's so funny. Well, obviously I can't comment on what's happening on 'True Blood,' but I will say that I go through stretches where they don't need me. We have a cast of about 1,000 on 'True Blood.' [Laughs] I'm not kidding, we've got 20 series regulars, or at least people who do more than half the episodes. Then we have at least another 20 guest stars and stuff, so the writers are servicing many, many people. We all end up -- even Anna [Paquin] and Stephen [Moyer] -- having a stretch of time where we're not working. 'The Good Wife' caught me during one of those times, so I did an episode and right now, we're in discussions with 'True Blood' for me to do more.
More episodes of 'The Good Wife'?
Yes, yes. But, I'm definitely not going to be with 'The Good Wife' full-time; it's recurring.

That's correct. Although, we're not really following the books at all

From "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer to comedian Ellen DeGeneres, Bluewater Productions' line of "Female Force" biography comics has covered a wide range of pop-culture personalities, and now we have your first look at the next subject in their popular series: best-selling author Anne Rice.
One of the most widely read authors in the world, Rice is best-known for her "Vampire Chronicles" series — specifically, "Interview with the Vampire," her first novel. Scheduled for release in June, "Female Force: Anne Rice" promises to follow the author "from her formative years in her beloved New Orleans through the tragedies that influenced the creation of her most popular novels and her fervent rediscovery of Catholicism."

Today, we have our final story from our Literary Lovers Mash-Up Writing Contest entries. We asked you to write about two literary lovers meeting OR falling in love for the first time in about 500 words.
Today’s entry comes from P.Q. Glisson — whose story reads like a really cool, extremely well-written crossover fan fiction. P.Q. introduces a meeting between Sookie Stackhouse from The Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris & Edward Cullen from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I have to admit, the encounter written here is one I’ve imagined myself. Fans of both series will find something to giggle over here. Plus, the story is written in such a way that it’s meant to fit in with the existing story arch of both series.
Some things just never get old, like vampires or a great pair of sunglasses. So in the interest of things both timeless and timely, we submit designer Sheefun Chan’s eye-popping collaboration with Ann Sofie Back.
No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you — these Cullen-approved sunnies are actually are supposed to look like they’re are dripping blood. Of course, Chan isn’t the first to be bitten by the vampire bug and tap the sartorial power of the undead, but even if late to the bloodsucking love-fest, these tinted glasses still manage to pack a serious bite.
And considering the current paleness of our pallor, these might just be the perfect pair to hide behind before venturing out into sun. Be still our Twi-Heart.

Sookie Stackhouse, like many of Bon Temps, Louisiana residents, remains in shock as much from the torture she received as from the grief she feels following the fae war that left so many Dead and Gone. Among those who died is Sookie’s fairy cousin, Claudine. Much of the surviving Faes went home.
Meanwhile the late Claudine’s triplet Claude asks Sookie if he can move in with her; she unenthusiastically agrees. Dead in the family is a superb entry in the Sookie saga albeit a bit less action (and deaths) than the previous thriller. The story line focuses on what is a modern paranormal extended family and how politics by those claiming the righteous right of patriotism to intrude within the family under the guise of security. Fans will enjoy this thought provoking urban fantasy as Sookie has little time to heal.

Oh, I know: “SOOKIIEEEEEEHHHHH!”
In a rather unexpected moment of candor, Anna Paquin told the world that she is bisexual while recording a video PSA for the True Colors Fund, the LGBT visibility and awareness group started by the awesome (and totally straight) Cyndi Lauper.
Apparently no one was expecting Paquin to bring such a personal element to the PSA, as she has apparently never mentioned being bisexual in an interview before. Go Anna!
