True Blood's Brit Morgan: Debbie Pelt Is On a "Murderous Rampage" After Sookie

While True Blood's Bill is off dealing with his own enemies, Sookie has a brand-new nemesis of her own.  Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan), a crazed V-addicted werewolf who's engaged to pack leader Cooter (Grant Bowler), still has unresolved feelings about her ex-boyfriend, Alcide (Joe Manganiello). So seeing Sookie (Anna Paquin) around Alcide, Morgan tells TVGuide.com, "pretty much sparks a murderous rampage in her head." She also told us what other mythical creatures we'll meet before the end of Season 3.

TVGuide.com: How does it feel getting to join such a hot cast?
Morgan: It's such a beautiful cast. It's amazing. It feels like one of the best and most awesome things that's ever happened to me. I was real nervous starting out. At the first table read, I could barely think straight. Everyone is just so easy going, despite how good-looking they are.
TVGuide.com: Tell us about your character, Debbie Pelt. 
Morgan: Debbie Pelt is a really kick-ass, passionate, ballsy woman. I'm a werewolf with a bit of an addiction to V, so I'm going on a rampage against Sookie. I'm not too happy with her. My character just takes this winding road, a bit of a downward spiral. I'm definitely in attack mode towards Sookie.

Bloodlines of True Blood explained

'True Blood's' Marshall Allman says Tommy Mickens 'really just wants love'

In Marshall Allman's own words, his character, shapeshifter Tommy Mickens, on "True Blood" is "bad ass."

From his default bulldog shape to his dare that TV older brother, Sam Merlotte (played by Sam Trammell), throw a punch to officially show he's family, Allman's words couldn't be more on point. But according to the actor, Tommy has a softer side, too.

"He really just wants love honestly," Allman tells Zap2it. "He wants someone he can trust, someone he can depend on, to be like a healthy family. Does he have any idea how that works? Hell no. But does he know how to get what he wants? Probably not, but we shall see."

So, when it comes to family, we hear he may have been getting the wrong brand of love. Will Sam be able to change things with some brotherly bonding?

The 10 best screen vampires

Max Schreck, Nosferatu (1922)

An unacknowledged adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula (which was banned in Britain after copyright complaints from the author's litigious widow), FW Murnau's silent gem still startles and amazes; the sight of the vampire's shadowy hand grasping at the heart of his victim ranks among cinema's most enduring images. So convincing was Max Schreck's unearthly performance that the modern movie Shadow of the Vampire would playfully suggest that he was the real deal; a genuine vampire hiding his identity in plain sight beneath the cover of movie magic.

Federico Luppi, Cronos (1993)

Debunking that most enduring vampire cliche, Guillermo del Toro's chilling masterpiece manages utterly to desexualise its antihero's bloodlust with extraordinary results. Having availed himself of the weirdly mechanical "Cronos" device, Federico Luppi's Jesus Gris staves off death with the occasional snifter of spilled claret. A scene in which he licks fresh blood off the polished white floor of a public lavatory is a taboo-breaking highlight that lingers in the mind. Luppi would later perform an affectionate cameo as King of the Underworld in Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth.

Bela Lugosi, Dracula (1931)

Having made the role his own on Broadway, charismatic Hungarian Bela Lugosi became the defining screen count for the early sound era. A Spanish language version, shot by night on the same sets, is widely regarded to be a better-directed movie, but leading man Carlos Villarías was no substitute for the master, in any language. In the ensuing years, Lugosi would experience both fame and obscurity, famously ending his days working for trash maestro Ed Wood. In 1979, goth rockers Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" reaffirmed his cult status. Undead, undead, undead indeed!

True Blood Actor brings extended life to 'True Blood' character

It scarcely seems plausible that an ordinary human could be the most vivid character on HBO's ghoulish "True Blood," a show teeming with supernatural, larger-than-death freaks.

Then again, "ordinary" is probably not the best way to describe Lafayette Reynolds, an emphatically gay man in a small Southern town. Brilliantly played by Nelsan Ellis, Lafayette is a redneck-thumping, drug-dealing diva with a tongue saltier than the gumbo he serves up as the grill cook at Merlotte's honky tonk.

Amid "True Blood's" menagerie of vampires, shape-shifters and werewolves, Lafayette's bayou bohemian was the hardest role to cast, according to creator Allan Ball, who adapted the show from Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels.

"Whenever you have a character in which one of his defining qualities is his sexuality, it's always challenging," says Ball via e-mail, "because you don't want to bring in someone who's going to play that in a phony way.

The 20 th Century Fox comedy “Vampires Suck” has just released its trailer. While it mostly spoofs the “Twilight Saga” films, it also takes jabs at other recent hits like “ Alice in Wonderland” and MTV’s “ Jersey Shore,” and music stars Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas.

It even features a shovel fight between Team Edward and Team Jacob fans. Let the collective eye-rolls begin. If it can get just a fraction of that “Twilight” money, it could possibly be their most successful parody yet. (“Epic Movie” stands as their most successful with $87 million worldwide).

“Vampires Suck” stars Ken Jeon of “The Hangover” and NBC’s “Community,” as well as Matt Lanter (“90210”), Anneliese van der Pol (“That’s So Raven”), and Jenn Proske. Newcomer Proske plays Becca, a high-schooler who has to choose between two supernaturally good-looking guys. The drama, like any teen movie, comes to a head at their prom.

The movie only went into production at the end of May and is already slated for an August 18 th release date.

Joe Manganiello: I remember thinking, 'oh my god, that’s Sookie Stackhouse!'

Joining the cast of TV's buzziest drama is a fairly awesome prospect -- but when the show in question already sits atop your Tivo season pass list, that "you're hired" phonecall reaches unprecedented levels of jubilation.
Such was the case when Joe Manganiello learned he'd been cast as Alcide, Sookie's werewolf bodyguard and potential bedmate in "True Blood's" third season. But the celebration was short-lived since Joe now had to made his body live up to author Charlaine Harris' novel image of Alcide. "Arms the size of boulders" is a daunting description.
With his biggest episode to date airing this Sunday, I caught up with Joe to find out what it felt like to go from "True Blood" fan to featured actor, why he felt such a personal connection with Alcide and what lies ahead in the Bill-Sookie-Alcide-Debbie-Coot love quadrangle.

HBO finds the right formula

Hands-off approach nurtures creativity, resulting in a leading 101 nominations.

The 101 Emmy nominations HBO scooped up Thursday marked the 10th straight year that the premium cable channel has won the most nods from the television academy.

Network executives hope the impressive tally, HBO's third-highest ever, will finally put to rest any lingering questions about whether it lost its cultural footing after the conclusion of "The Sopranos."

"It's really, really a sweet morning," said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO's programming group. "What's so satisfying and so exciting is the fact that all of the areas we program in were recognized. We can be jumping up and down across the board."

The big winner of the day was the 10-part World War II miniseries "The Pacific," which garnered 24 Emmy nominations, the most of any broadcast or cable program. Two HBO films — "Temple Grandin" and "You Don't Know Jack" — earned 15 nods apiece.

True Blood's Mariana Klaveno on That Sex Scene and How J.J. Abrams Made it Possible

There wasn’t a new episode of True Blood last Sunday, but then again, you probably needed that downtime to decompress from the previous episode’s insane final scene. On a show that commingles sex and violence as a general rule, that last encounter between Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) may have shredded the envelope: testing the limits of vampire-on-vampire hate-sex, Bill twisted Lorena’s head completely around between thrusts — and true to Lorena’s malevolent nature, she loved it.
Did Klaveno feel the same way about having to shoot it, though? With True Blood resuming its run this weekend, she called up Movieline to discuss exactly how they made it work, why Lorena just can’t get over Bill, and how J.J. Abrams is inadvertently responsible.
So you had a very, shall we say, “head-turning” scene in episode three?
You could say that. You could say “twisted.”
I’m sure you’re going to hear all of those jokes.
We were making them on the day of filming, trust me.

HBO Orders a new pilot from True Blood creator Alan Ball " All Signs of Death"

If you’re HBO, and Alan Ball comes to you and says “I want to adapt this series of books into a series,” you say yes.  Tue Blood — Ball’s adaptation of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries novels — has been an immense success for the pay network, even landing an Outstanding Drama Emmy nomination yesterday.
So naturally, HBO has ordered a pilot based on the 2009 Charlie Huston crime novel The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, which Ball will produce and direct.  Huston scripted the adaptation himself, which centers on “an inveterate twenty-something slacker who stumbles into a career as a crime scene cleaner, only to find himself entangled with a murder mystery, a femme fatale, and the loose ends of his own past. Ball’s comments as to his approach.

Though the novel deals with very noirish themes, Ball will shy away from the traditional visual style of the genre:

Charlaine Harris Hits the Road

She'll be at Comic-Con in San Diego later in July with the cast of a hit TV show. She'll be in Australia in September with the cast of that same hit TV show. But she'll be on her own when she signs and reads from her new novel, Dead in the Family (Ace), at the Tunica Museum on July 11th and at the Hernando (Mississippi) Public Library on July 12th.

Dead in the Family sits on The New York Times' best-seller list for fiction. Her coming title, a co-edited collection of stories by a company of authors and called Death's Excellent Vacation (Ace), is due the first week of August, and "she" is Charlaine Harris — Tunica native, Rhodes College alum, Magnolia, Arkansas, resident, and very prolific and very successful author of, among a long list of fantastic tales, the Sookie Stackhouse Southern vampire series, which happens to be the source material for True Blood, the very successful HBO series.

But who, in her own words, is Charlaine Harris?
"I was born in Tunica, and for many years my father was a planter," Harris said recently by phone from her home in Magnolia. "He got a job as a schoolteacher and then as a school principal. And my mother worked at the local library for many years."
