Dead and Gone: A Messy Review

I'm gonna post a couple of DAG reviews today since most people are finished reading the book. From Flisha..

Dead and Gone: A Messy Review

So, I got myself a copy of the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel, Dead and Gone. (We are on Book 9 now). I'd been waiting, so avidly, for this book ever since December 2008, when I discovered the Southern Vampire Mysteries and gorged through Books 1-8 in less than two weeks! (Treadmills, stretches and diets forgotten, natch.)

First, let me just say I absolutely loved the Sookie books, especially Book 4, the part where Eric got amnesia and Sookie took care of him and where the Sookie-Eric saga began. The pairing was very unexpected, since Sookie and Eric were always love/hate. But perhaps predictable, also, since women always fall for the wrong guy who turns out to be the right one. Think Joey/Pacey. Is it wrong that I am comparing Sookie/Eric to Joey/Pacey?! LOL.

I begun book 9 just as I was finishing book 8!! The book came at
4:45PM on Wednesday~and I finished book 9 at 12;45AM on Friday!!!
The book took me two days~or 14 hours to read!! I loved all of it!
I can't wait for book 10~whenever
that will come out!?!?
And I loved how Ms.Harris left a
huge question at the end of Book 9-
"But which Vampire Grandfather is
the better one......?????" thus
setting us up for the next book &
season two of the show!!!!

I received my book from Amazon.com and immediately started reading. I laughed, giggled, and cried. Six hours later I was compiling my questions for the cliff hangers since I had finished the book. I loved it. Another amazing installment in a great book series. I have many old questions answered and many new questions to ponder during the year until the next book. Great Job Mrs Harris.

I agree with the reviewer. This book was not up to par with the other books in the series.(Not that every book was great, the first four were good, then they started a slow decline to the mess of D&G.) It felt rushed and full of plot holes.

On the TrueBlood wiki someone copied a few statements from Mrs. Harris. In one of the statements Mrs. Harris said something to the effect that she could take more time to write a better book perhaps even error free, but she would be bored. I find that statement offensive as a reader of her books. She appears to care less about the quality of her book, and more about the cha ching in her bank account. Why should I or anyone else purchase her books if she is too lazy to write a better book. I will not be purchasing any more of her books.

I am on pg 100, and I certainly hope the book gets better....now it is pretty boring....same old same old...stuborn Sookie can't let herself go and love not only Eric, but anyone. Frustrating! I would rather read the fan fiction. "And the Winner Is", is a great example of how Eric and Sookie could be together and we love it.

I didn't like the book at all ! It was so disappointing and if doesn't get better in the next couple of books I don't think I'll keep reading them.
I think the shows will be better.

Good review - but overall i enjoyed the book. I do think Charaline needs to spend more time improving her craft. This book is riddled with excessive details for boring and needless things...it felt like page fillers or maybe she was being uber descriptive for AB to use on his show...

Another thing that really bothered me about this book is the death of 2 pregnant women and Sookie being horribly tortured, very difficult to read. I worry about the effects of being so savagely tortured on Sookie
