Being Human : Relocated to America, Still Bloodthirsty
The popular British series “Being Human,” about a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost sharing a run-down house in Bristol, isn’t great television, and its use of scary monsters as a metaphor for adolescent (or in this case, 20-something) alienation has been old hat for well over a decade. (Yes, “Buffy” was that long ago.)
But it has energy, and interesting characters, and a pulpy momentum that keeps you engaged in its kitchen-sink drama meets Bram Stoker story lines. Which means that it looks like the work of Shakespeare — or, more to the point, Mike Leigh — when compared with the bland, airbrushed American version of “Being Human” that begins Monday night on Syfy.read on
