NEW YORK, NY, Apr 15, 2009 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Elektra/Atlantic Records has announced the upcoming release of "TRUE BLOOD - MUSIC FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES," due in stores and online on May 19th. The album features tracks from the acclaimed HBO drama's first season, including the sultry theme song, "Bad Things" performed by Jace Everett. The hugely anticipated second season of "True Blood" is slated to premiere on HBO on June 14th, while "True Blood: The Complete First Season" will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 19th.
"TRUE BLOOD - MUSIC FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES" features songs performed by a wide-range of Louisiana natives, reflecting the series' steamy backwoods setting. The artists span the Bayou State's distinctive musical heritage, from Lucinda Williams, Slim Harpo, and Lee Dorsey to Allen Toussaint and the legendary Dr. John (see attached tracklisting). The soundtrack also includes "Bleed 2 Feed," an exclusive new song written expressly for the series by Lafayette-based swamp rocker CC Adcock.
Also among the highlights are tracks from such diverse talent as Ryan Adams, Cobra Verde, The Watson Twins, Little Big Town, and Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. In addition, "TRUE BLOOD - MUSIC FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES" includes "The Golden State," performed by the one-and-only John Doe, which will be featured in the series' upcoming second season.
"TRUE BLOOD - MUSIC FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES" will be available for pre-order beginning April 21st at the Atlantic Records webstore, located at http://store.atlanticrecords.com, as well as the HBO Shop(R) ( www.hbo.com/store/trueblood), and other DSPs.
Mixing romance, suspense, mystery, and humor, "True Blood" takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans to get their fix. Set in a backwoods Louisiana town, the show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin, winner of a Golden Globe(R) for her portrayal), who can read minds, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer).
Critics across the country have proclaimed "True Blood" one of the best new shows on television. USA Today called it "wildly imaginative," with "one of the best ensembles of the new series," while the Washington Post found it "audacious, outrageous and playfully grisly." TV Guide hailed the show as "graphically sexy and scary, and often wildly funny," and "a broadly entertaining, deliciously twisted slice of modern Southern Gothic."

Season two of True Blood premieres June 14 on HBO, and creator Alan Ball just told fans at Paley Fest that the new episodes have scenes (many not from the books) that will make "your jaw drop."
But June is a ways away, and we all want new bitey hijinks right now! So right here, right now, E! Online is exclusively premiering your first look at the teaser posters for the new episodes. At first they seem to depict a puddle of blood, but look again and you'll see that they're really an optical illusion hiding something sexier...

Anna Paquin was 11 when she won an Oscar for her performance in “The Piano” and in her mid-20s when she took the 2009 Golden Globe for her leading role in HBO’s vampire series, “True Blood,” but as she locked up her bicycle on a funky stretch of Abbot Kinney Boulevard the other day, she looked like just another young woman from the neighborhood. “Thanks for schlepping down to Venice,” she said as a greeting.
In person, the 26-year-old Paquin is as cheery and down-to-earth — and at the same time as direct and determined — as her “True Blood” character, a telepathic waitress with a penchant for short shorts and the 173-year-old vampire Bill played by Stephen Moyer, who is also Paquin’s real-life boyfriend. On this day, the New Zealand native wore bicycle shorts, her blonde hair was in a ponytail and her face had no sign of makeup. She was both accessible and upbeat, despite the fact that she had gotten off work from the second season of “True Blood” at 4 a.m., slept a few hours, then had to bike to the interview, since she does not know how to drive.
“No worries,” she said of her schedule. “The rest of the world doesn’t run on vampire hours just because I do.”

"True Blood: Music From the Original HBO Series" ($18.98, Atlantic/WEA) features a song from John Doe and Kathleen Edwards, "The Golden State," that will be included on the show's next season.

As Sookie and Bubba (Elvis in a previous life) are raking leaves at dusk, a limo pulls up. One thing's for sure, there aren't any limos in Bon Temps. Out of town visitors have arrived, and Bubba makes himself scarce, he's shy around new people and Sookie hopes he has gone to fetch Bill Compton, one-time vampire lover and still good friend. She can smell trouble brewing, well see it actually, the limo has vampires and something else, a shifter maybe.

When Mr. Cataliades and Waldo alight from the limo, something is up. Mr. Cataliades is a lawyer come to talk about cousin Hadley's estate. Sookie didn't even know she had died. According to Waldo, The Fellowship of the Sun followers staked her at a cemetery, leaving Sookie with her estate. How odd, Waldo - a vampire, couldn't tell there were humans at the cemetery, especially ones with stakes, human heart races, surely he should have felt them, better yet smelled them and their blood.

Elektra/Atlantic Records has announced that it will release a soundtrack album for HBO's True Blood on May 19. In addition to Jace Everett's series theme "Bad Things" and an original tune from Louisiana rocker C.C. Adcock titled "Bleed 2 Feed," the CD will include previously released songs from Lucinda Williams ("Lake Charles"), Ryan Adams ("Two"), Dr. John ("I Don't Wanna Know"), Allen Toussaint ("From a Whisper to a Wind"), The Flying Burrito Brothers ("Christine's Tune"), and more. Season 1 of True Blood arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray the same day, May 19; the thriller is expected to return for a second season on HBO this June.

At end of the True Blood Paley event Anna was whisked away for screening of "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler"
Actress Anna Paquin thanks Megan Felt (right) and Jaime Walker (left) after receiving a gift from them Monday evening at Fox Studios in Los Angeles at the screening of "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler." Paquin plays the role of Sendler in the Hallmark Hall of Fame Production, which will have its world premiere at 7 p.m. tonight at the Liberty Theater, 113 S. Main. There will also be a preview matinee this afternoon at 2 p.m. Walker and Felt are members of Life in a Jar, a group of people who brought Sendler's story of rescuing 2,500 children during the Holocaust to light.

Bypassing the full-episode treatment for the night, attendees were treated to a 15-minute Season 1 highlight reel, followed by a short teaser for Season 2, which bows June 14.
The clip, which featured Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Bill (Stephen Moyer) bickering over the newbie vampire he sired at the end of Season 1, offered a glimpse at a new creature from author Charlaine Harris' "Southern Vampire Mysteries" book series on which the drama is based.
Created by Alan Ball ("Six Feet Under"), the writer/director/executive producer said he first picked up Harris' "Dead Until Dark" (Book 1 in the "SVM" series) while waiting for a dental appointment and "went through them like crack. I became a crack addict."

Happily, Blood boss Alan Ball and his stars, including Paquin and Alexander Skarsgård, dished to us exclusively on the red carpet about the Viking vampire getting a hot spotlight, who's getting a serious beatdown and who's playing with the new supernatural creatures.

"True Blood" is the sort of show the Paley Festival is really about. People flew in from other states, camped out in lawn chairs on the pavement by the Arclight theater and went fully insane when they finally made it inside and the cast was trotted onstage for their viewing pleasure. There was an entire row of women wearing "Bill's Babe" t-shirts. It was fun.
Show runner Alan Ball was introduced last, but was first to speak, telling the audience how he stumbled upon Charlaine Harris' "True Blood" book series completely by accident. He was 20 minutes early for a dentist appointment and decided to kill some time at the book store. He spied "Dead After Dark" and the tagline -- "Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend wasn't such a bright idea" -- caught his attention. He bought it on impulse and shortly thereafter became obsessed, ordering book after book from Amazon. "It was like crack," he said. "I became a crack addict."
He didn't go to HBO with the idea right away because he wasn't sure if it was going to be a TV show or a movie at first. Instead, he went to Charlaine, got the rights and later brought HBO into the picture.
Yes, when you're Alan Ball, you have the luxury of bringing HBO in.
And then HBO and Alan started bringing the actors in.
