True Blood Bloodcopy : Guess the Vampire! and Win an iPod nano

UPDATE: One lucky reader can win a blood-red iPod nano if they correctly guess the vampire. If more than one reader submits the correct answer, a winner will be chosen at random. Send your entry to andrew@bloodcopy.com. Make sure to include your email address. Contest details below. Good luck!

Welcome to the inaugural Guess the Vampire contest, the game where we ask readers to leave comments and vote for the person they think is a vampire from a selection of "man-on-the-street" photos.

The idea behind this little quiz is to prove to any doubters out there who think that all vampires have glow-in-the-dark fangs, bloodshot eyes, and Count Chocula capes, that anyone, even your most average-looking of folks, can be a vampire. Exhibits 1-6 at left.

Last night, the Bloodcopy staff took to the streets to partake in some mixed-being nightlife. Andrew threw back a few bottles of warm TruBlood (Type B, known as the "aggressive and energizing" type), while the rest of the staff enjoyed a selection of microbrews. We surveyed the scene, and picked our victims (it's a metaphor! jokes!).

So look at the photographs. Look long and hard. Can you spot the vampire?

Spotlighting author: Charlaine Harris writing tip look in your character's purse !

Page Crutcher does a great interview with Charlaine - she actually asks her some different and interesting questions ! Amazing!

So what is in Sookie purse ?

The week that I spoke with Charlaine Harris her novel, Dead and Gone, reached #3 on the New York Times best seller list. This isn't surprising.
Charlaine uses her pen to draw out worlds full of sexy, comical and real characters that may or may not be of the supernatural variety, 'supes' as her feisty, yet vulnerable, heroine Sookie Stackhouse calls them.
These are the kinds of novels you slink deep down into. Like warm bath water, they keep you drifting, content to stay for as long as you can in their enchanting and often tumultuous universe. She doesn't create characters. She creates friends.
Humble, sassy and honest, Charlaine doesn't shimmer. She sparkles. Speaking with her is insightful, entertaining and motivating. She's living her dream, without blinders on and loving where her path, with all its bends and curves, takes her.
Charlaine will tell you, if you want to be a writer, "it is necessary to read and read and read. The first thing you have to do to be a writer - read widely across all genres." She practices what she preaches..

True Blood Season 2 Cliffhangers: Whose foot is that in Andy's car ?

Whose foot is that in Andy's car?

There is increasingly less certainty about that being Lafayette's foot.
<--Lafayette painting his toes on the bar. When Alan Ball said in "A Touch of Blood" that " book readers will know that the foot is Lafayette " we all decided that if it really was, HE WOULD NEVER say that ...

So now there is speculation that the foot might be
someone else maybe Lettie Mae or maybe Miss Jeanette.
Tara accidentally runs into Miss Jeanette on working at a drug store the way to Keachie.

Here are the hands with fingernail polish color for Miss Jeanette (right)

<--The foot in Andy's car in the parking lot. What do you think?

True Blood Season 2 Possible Title Song: Ep. 10 "New World In My View"

This is exciting ! We now (might) know the titles of the first 11 episodes of True Blood for Season 2.

Now the one thing we know for sure about True Blood is that the episode names come from the a song used in in the soundtrack of that episode and that it is somehow significant to that episode.

So far for Season 2 we have :
Episode 2.01 - Nothing but the Blood
Episode 2.02 - Keep this Party Going
Episode 2.03 - Changed to Scratches from Scratch My Back
Episode 2.04 - Changed to Shake and Fingerpop from Let's Take a Trip Together
Episode 2.05 - Never let me go
Episode 2.06 - Friend is a Four Letter Word
Episode 2.07 - Release me
Episode 2.08 - Timebomb
Episode 2.09 - I will rise up

All we know about Season 2 spoilers, casting calls etc. can be found here
All Season 2 videos ( including my great slide shows) here

We know that Alan Ball and the amazing Gary Calamar put great effort into musically curating True Blood !

Episode 2.10 - New World In My View , this is only my guess, I just research the various songs with the leaked title and come up with a song I think it might be.

I think it might be New World in My View by Sister Getrude Morgan, the remix by King Britt y0u can hear them both versions here

All Things Considered, did a great report on Sister Morgan in September 30, 2005 just months after Katrina.

One gem of New Orleans culture was long gone before Hurricane Katrina hit, but her music and message are poised to reach larger audiences when a Philadelphia-based production team rolls out its remix and tour.

Sister Gertrude Morgan was born in 1900 in Alabama and died in 1980. At age 39, she decided to carry God's message to what she called the "headquarters of sin," New Orleans. It was there she preached, painted -- and recorded an album.

Let's Make a Record, issued in 1970, was a cappella gospel with Morgan's tambourine as accompaniment. Though her paintings became widely collected and displayed, the album remained obscure.

Read on and you can hear the wonderful episode of All Things Considered HERE

Fascinating mini-documentary about the making of the album with King Britt.

True Blood : Ausiello Spoilers after watching first 4 Season 2 episodes

Question: Since you've seen the first four True Blood episodes of season 2, is there anything you can share? --Sanna

Ausiello: They're bloody fangtastic! (Never. Gets. Old.) Seriously, season 2 -- premiering June 14 -- gets off to a thrilling, gory, scary, sexy, disgusting, funny, suspenseful start. Alan Ball would drive a wooden stake through my heart if I spoiled any of the big twists (i.e. my lips are sealed about the fate of a certain flamboyant vampire blood dealer), but here are a few juicy morsels to whet your appetite:

• There are three orgies, all of them powered by Maryann's (Michelle Forbes) aphrodisiac fairy dust.

• Alexander Skarsgard's Nordic vamp has an extremely homoerotic encounter with a character who shall remain nameless. In related news, there are about two dozen gratuitous shirtless shots in the first four episodes, all of them belonging to either Mechad Brooks (Tara's new BF, Eggs) or Ryan Kwanten (Jason).

• Sookie has a very revealing conversation with a new character in episode 4.

• If you're wondering what secret Merlotte's newest waitress (played by Ashley Jones) is harboring, a clue can be found on her skin.

True Blood Season 2 Cliffhangers: How does MaryAnn know Sam Merlotte ?

In Episode 12 of Season one MaryAnn comes to pick up Tara from Sookie's house, the night of the Rene attack. Sam looks very surprised and worried. She says "Did you think I wasn't go to find you ? You silly, silly dog !"

From the Episode 2.03: “Nothing But the Blood” description from HBO , we learn that in this episode "Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old."In the "Taste of Blood " season 2 clips we see this meeting between MaryAnn and the 17 year old Sam.

We do know that where Sam says to her " go ahead and turn me" it looks as if Maryann can turn Sam into a dog at her whim. ( see photo above)

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten a "Hottie" in Women's Health Magazine

From Women's Health Magazine

Hottie: Ryan Kwanten
On HBO's True Blood, the 32-year-old actor spends an inordinate amount of time half-naked. We got him to bare even more: his thoughts on love and dating.
Christine Fennessy

1. As an Australian living in the U.S., have you spotted any differences between Aussie and American women?
Australian women tend to tell it like it is—even if it's the brutal, honest truth. I think American women usually break it to you a little easier. There's a softer side to them.

2. What's one mistake you see women making in relationships?
Trying out the "I love yous" after a week or two [of dating]. You have to give it time before you start [saying that]. I like exploring the mystery of a relationship instead of laying it all out on the table at the beginning.

3. Care to let us in on your most embarrassing dating moment?
I arrived at this girl's house and her dad answered the door. The guy was huge—in my head, he seemed close to seven feet tall and 300 pounds. He looked down at me and said, "Can I help you?" I said, "Yeah, I'm here to see—" and I forgot the girl's name! I was just looking up at him thinking, Oh, God, please don't squash me!

Read on there is a mention of Scrabble ;-)

HBO True Blood Escape the Everyday Sweepstakes

You guys remember to play everyday! great prizes !

There is a little spoiler mystery even in the game. In the game we see pages like Merlotte's and the cemetery, on the cemetery page there is this icon to click on ( see image below right), it's the tombstone for Lafayette Reynolds . I'll tell ya since watching Alan Ball on the 'A Taste of Blood' documentary last weekend where he states, " anyone that's read the books will tell you it's Lafayette " makes me think IT WON'T be his foot ! ( although maybe his body will be in the trunk ;))

Now, don't get me wrong, I think Lafayette will die but Ball might drag out the intrigue a little into Season 2

Being Human BBC series about A Werewolf, A Vampire and A Ghost living as Flatmates is Moving To America

From i09

The supernatural beasties are coming over from across the pond. Being Human is finally going to get some American air time, which means no more choppy YouTubey scrap-watching for me.

The series, which literally is about a young werewolf, vampire and ghost all sharing a flat in Bristol together, is like Friends, if the cast mates sometimes murdered people and turned them into bloodsucking immortals and wolf people.

The bumbly little fellow who plays the mild-mannered werewolf, George, is awfully endearing, you should tune in just for him. The ghost is a obnoxious dead lady, but pehaps I would be too if I was stuck wearing the same clothes forever. All in all, its a cute little series (from what I've seen) and if it stays on the "troubles with dating a werewolf" path it will continue that way. Sadly it looks like it's veering off into some strange vampire war that I can't particularly understand, and I'm not sure I care for.

Ever dream of rubbing shoulders with New York's media elite, both human and vampire? Then participate in our reader contest, where ten lucky winners will be put on the glow-in-the-dark guest list for tomorrow night's celebration bash for the brand-new Bloodcopy/Gawker union.

To enter, email me at bloodcopy@gawker.com with a picture of yourself standing in front of (or inside of) a place that you know is a vampire hangout, along with a couple of sentences about what gave it away. For example: did you see a man in a three-piece suit order a "Bloody Mary" at the W Hotel around 3 AM? Spot a kid in a trucker hat flick out his fangs whilst skateboarding through a pre-dawn Tompkins Square Park?

Responses are due by noon tomorrow. I'll be going through them, picking my favorites, then choosing ten at random. Good luck...

True Blood Blood Copy : Die Laughing

This video, of a hardworking, up-and-coming vampire comedian has given me a case of the mal humor. Let's talk about bad moods for a second. We vampires do love a mood. In fact, I'd say a lot of us are just straight up moody.

Have you seen one around an empty case of TruBlood? Not cute.

Hecklers, though an occupational hazard, can put even the most experienced comedian in a bad mood. A particularly nasty heckler might even make a former-sitcom-star-turned stand-up, say, lash out at the audience while being recorded on some frat boy's camera phone.

But heckling a vampire is a dangerous endeavor. Nothing puts vampire comedians in a worse mood than hecklers. We are in a delicate situation, people, and don't take kindly to outright slurs in a public setting (or a private one, for that matter). Provoking a vampire who is just trying to do his thing, then filming his reaction, then throwing the video up on the Internet is like teasing a puppy with a cracker then eating yourself. Well, not exactly. But it's mean.

Be kind. Or else.

—Andrew

Charlaine Harris on Jeff Farias Radio Show

** Charlaine does say she is more than a 1/3 of the way done with Sookie 10 and the book will be out in May of 2010.

Charlaine Harris did a little interview with progressive talker, Jeff Farias

"The Jeff Farias Show 5/26/09"

Charlaine Harris - has been a published novelist for over twenty-five years. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field. Now she lives in southern Arkansas with her husband, her three children, three dogs, and a duck. The duck stays outside. Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, by the time she hit college (Rhodes, in Memphis) Charlaine was writing poetry and plays. After holding down some low-level jobs, she had the opportunity to stay home and write, and the resulting two stand-alones were published by Houghton Mifflin.

After a child-producing sabbatical, Charlaine latched on to the trend of writing mystery series, and soon had her own traditional books about a Georgia librarian, Aurora Teagarden. Her first Teagarden, REAL MURDERS, garnered an Agatha nomination. Soon Charlaine was looking for another challenge, and the result was the much darker Lily Bard series. The books, set in Shakespeare, Arkansas, feature a heroine who has survived a terrible attack and is learning to live with its consequences. When Charlaine began to realize that neither of those series was ever going to set the literary world on fire, she regrouped and decided to write the book she’d always wanted to write. Not a traditional mystery, nor yet pure science fiction or romance, DEAD UNTIL DARK broke genre boundaries to appeal to a wide audience of people who just enjoy a good adventure.

Each subsequent book about Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic Louisiana barmaid and friend to vampires, werewolves, and various other odd creatures, has drawn more readers. The southern vampire books are published in Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Thailand, Spain, France, and Russia. In addition to Sookie, Charlaine has another heroine with a strange ability. Harper Connelly, lightning-struck and strange, can find corpses . . . and that’s how she makes her living. In addition to her work as a writer, Charlaine is the past senior warden of St. James Episcopal Church, a board member of Mystery Writers of America, a past board member of Sisters in Crime, a member of the American Crime Writers League, and past president of the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance. She spends her “spare” time reading, watching her daughter play sports, traveling, and going to the movies.”
