Mehcad Brooks moves from True Blood to The Deep End
I'm sort of glad to hear that Mehcad Brooks is leaving HBO's True Blood to join the cast of ABC's midseason legal drama The Deep End. At least, I hope that's what it means.
Between his character Benedict "Eggs" Talley, whiny Tara Thornton, and shaky Maryann Forrester, I won't be sorry to see that whole storyline come to an end. And if my recent conversation with Alan Ball means what I think it means, Brooks probably won't be returning. Well, maybe. Stay tuned for that interview.
While Brooks' recent roles have given him plenty of fodder to work with -- he also starred as a mysterious guy with a troubled past on Desperate Housewives -- I'd like to see him in a show where he can really get down and dirty. The Deep End is set at a prestigious law firm, and Brooks will play an associate named Malcolm Bennet.

True Blood / Sookie promotional events to include blood drives
I think all the principals (Harris , Ball, HBO and the cast) in this would agree that the single best thing the True Blood / Sookie world could do would be to encourage fans to become a blood donors.
As part of the True Blood tasting parties in Chicago with Nelsan Ellis they are having blood drives and remember, when Charlaine spoke in Chicago ares earlier in the summer they did the same thing with the " Vampires Have Hearts, Too!" campaign with LifeSource..
ETERNAL BLOOD DRIVES
Just like some “friends” of theirs, the University of Illinois Medical Center is looking for all types – A, B or O, positive or negative. RCN is proud to sponsor the following Blood Drives:
When: Thu. Sept. 17th, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Where: DePaul University Cortelyou Commons Address: 2324 N. Fremont Street, Chicago, IL When: Thu. Joss Whedon: Master of cult TV
From Entertainment Weekly
For the second class in our EW University course on TV Auteurs, Prof. Adam B. Vary offers this overview of the TV career of Joss Whedon, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Dollhouse. Also, check out this photo gallery of our favorite shows by four legendary showrunners.
What Stephen Bochco (Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, NYPD Blue), Norman Lear (All in the Family, The Jeffersons), and Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone) were in the 20th century television, Joss Whedon has become today: Nothing less than a television brand. His name alongside the “Created by” credit during the opening titles guarantees you are about to watch a show that swings for the fences; a show as keenly attuned to its female characters as its male ones; a show that tackles Big Ideas and Big Themes without skimping on Great Entertainment; a show that is unafraid to Go There, from allowing the lead heroine or hero to make some profoundly unlikable choices to killing off a beloved character; a show that is steeped in genre tropes yet also lovingly tweaks them; and a show that has a tone, style, and voice so singular that it’s earned its own adjective: Whedonesque.
And yet Joss Whedon has never been at the helm of a bone fide mainstream hit. From his seminal first series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to his current distaff genre series Dollhouse, Whedon has instead become a master of cult TV, fostering a small(ish) but rabidly loyal fan base for each of his series. A critics’ darling if ever there was one, he has failed, however, to win the respect of Emmy voters, who have — in the unimpeachable opinion of Whedon fans everywhere — unforgivably snubbed his shows, their writers (well, mostly), and their actors. No matter. If all he had done was make Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s first three seasons, Whedon’s place in the TV firmament would be secure. As it stands today, his ongoing body of work is a testament to the heartening truth that unique and uncommonly great network television is still possible in an era dominated by reality TV and endless procedural crime show spin-offs.

Forbes : Hollywood's 10 Most Powerful Vampires
We're talking movie and television characters, not agents and executives. Which are the most popular and most lucrative?
Last week, the co-chief of HBO stood in front of a throng of television critics raving about the premium network's latest success. Though previous landmark series were built on gangsters and urban fashionistas, the latest ratings coup for the hitmaker is built around … vampires.
It's not surprising that True Blood has been a boon to Time Warner's HBO. Since Bela Lugosi hit the screen as Dracula in 1931 these bloodsuckers have proven to be near-sure-fire moneymakers for Hollywood, tapped and retapped by producers looking to lure bodies into seats. In Pictures: Hollywood's 10 Most Powerful Vampires
"Vampires have become a substitute for fairy tales that adults couldn't tell themselves anymore," says William Patrick Day, professor of cinema and English at Oberlin College and author of Vampire Legends in Contemporary American Culture: What Becomes a Legend Most. "Vampires are dangerous and sexy and powerful and they have what humans want--immortality."

What’s New on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books List
What’s New on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books List
Here’s the latest book buzz from USA TODAY with a highlight of tomorrow’s Best-Selling Books list:
• True Blood, the popular HBO series inspired by Charlaine Harris’ novels about cocktail waitress/telepath Sookie Stackhouse, has been a shot in the arm for Harris. Every title in her nine-book series — as well as a separate boxed set — is in USA TODAY’s top 100 this week, and four are in the top 50. Before the series premiered in September 2008, there were never more than two in the top 150.

Charlaine Harris : Gifts on the Road
Charlaine writes from Femmefatales ( yeah, don't bring her gifts to her signings I have her mailing address if you have something you need to give her. )

Gifts on the Road
I love to meet my readers face-to-face, and I try to give them a little bit of me in return for
all the time they've spent reading my books. In their kindness, some of them try to give me a little bit of them. A tangible bit. This is both charming and alarming.
For those of you who've packed for touring before, you know how valuable every square inch of suitcase is. You know how heavy that suitcase can be when you have to swing it up on a luggage rack or pull it off the conveyer belt at the baggage pickup. Some readers let their generosity sweep away the practical aspects of a woman living out of a suitcase.
Sure, I love food that is a specialty of the region where I'm signing. But blueberry jelly in a glass jar is really not something I can take with me when I've got five more cities to go. Coffee-table-size books, no matter how much I might want to look at them, are also (here's a favorite word) contraindicated. Like any sane woman, I love chocolate. But it melts when you have to pack it, especially in the late spring and summer.
A gift that almost made me gush was a handmade bookmark. And the first thought that crossed my mind? How grateful I was that it would be easy to pack, and I would get to enjoy it and use it.
Have any of you gotten strange or unusable gifts? How did you handle it?

True Blood Vampire Showdown: Bill vs. Eric Which undead Louisiana loverboy would win in an Bon Temps battle?
September 2, 2009 - For those of you who read the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire Chronicles, you know how the love triangle between telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire suitors Bill Compton and Eric Northman ultimately turns out. With Season 2 of True Blood coming to a close on September 13, those of us who only know these characters through this HBO series are finally just beginning to get a taste of this bloodsucking rivalry. This edition of Heroes Showdown is about to take a nasty, sordid turn as we pit Bill against Eric in not just a battle for Sookie's love, but in a battle for ultimate undead supremacy.
Let's face it, on True Blood, it's clear who the stronger vampire is. It's set up in the ground rules of the series itself. Older vampires are stronger. Vampires that feed on humans are more virile and savage. The cards are all pretty much laid out; Eric could kick Bill's ass. Just because of age alone. But Bill, for lack of a better word, is the hero of the piece, and aren't heroes supposed to be able to overcome much stronger adversaries? It says a lot of about Bill that, as much as he dislikes Eric, he's still not afraid of him.
It's time to throw down the gauntlet! Don't listen to the screaming girlfans (unless you are one). Don't pay any mind to what does happen in the books if you are privy to such information. Let's have it out! It's the Civil War Soldier versus The Viking where the stakes are…not to get staked!
Oh and Spoiler Alert for anyone who hasn't completely caught themselves up on the show.

Go Ask Dallas " What the hell did Sophie- Anne tell Bill about how to kill the Maenad ?
Dear Dallas, What did Sophie-Anne tell Bill about how to kill Mary Anne the maend ? Thanks, M
Well, M here is the text from the 2 exchanges that Sophie- Anne and Bill have about killing the maenad. Maybe this will help you sort through what Sophie Ann says ..and I get this feeling she might not be telling " William" everything ....
BC: I need to know how to kill a maenad.
SA: A maenad? In Bon Temps? That's random.
BC: Yes. She seems to have caused some sort of mass hypnosis. The whole town has devolved a primitive state in a matter of days.
SA: Oh, my, she's an old one. Well, they're all old. Relics.
BC: Ancient Greece, correct?
SA: Before that even. Orgies, sacrifice? Cannibalism?
BC: We suspect.
SA: Fun.
BC: So how do I kill it?
SA: You can't. She's convinced herself she's immortal and so she is. William, surely you know that everything that exists imagined itself into existence.
BC: I'm not entirely familiar with that theory, no.
SA: Think about it. You're a wild young girl who's married to some jerk who treats you like property and is also fucking some 14-year-old boy. And along comes this religion, which encourages you to get hammered, run naked through the woods, have sex with whoever, or whatever, and it's all part of getting closer to God.
BC: I could see how that would have its appeal, especially to humans with their tendency towards Puritanism.
SA: Exactly. So you're fucking everybody in the dirt. Why not kill something and eat it raw? Hey, you're super extra pious. There's nothing you can't do, and each time you do it just brings you one step closer to the divine.
BC: Isn't that delusional?
SA: Never underestimate the power of blind faith. It can manifest in ways that bend the laws of physics or break them entirely.
BC: I bit her and it poisoned me. Of course it did.
SA: We can only drink human blood, and she's no longer even remotely human.
BC: But she started out as human.
SA: Hello. Evolution? We started out that way too. Less than two hours till dawn. Shall we have sex? Kidding. I haven't enjoyed sex with men since the Eisenhower administration.
BC: I really ought to get back to...
SA: Nonsense. Sookie's not in any trouble. You would know it
Then later during Yatzhee
SA: Maenads are sad silly things. The world changed centuries ago and they're still waiting for the God Who Comes.
BC: Does he ever come?
SA: Of course not. Gods never actually s
BC: If I can't kill her, how do I get her to leave Bon Temps?
SA: She has to believe that she's successfully summoned forth Dionysus...in hope that he will...ravish her, quite literally devour her, until she's lost into oblivion.
BC: So she seeks...death...the true death. The one thing she's evolved beyond.
SA: Ironic, isn't it? You know, they're really not that smart, these maenads.
BC: So how does she summon this nonexistent god of hers?
SA: I never said he was nonexistent. I just said he never comes. She believes if she finds the
perfect vessel, sacrifices and devours part of him or her while surrounded by the magic of her familiars, then her mad god will appear. At that point, when she willingly surrenders herself to him...
BC: That's the only point she can be killed.
SA: Who's the smartest boy in class.
BC: The perfect vessel... human?
SA: They prefer supernatural beings.
BC: The two-natured.
SA: Shifters, yes. And Weres. Fortunately, they show little interest in us. Something about our hearts not beating. But they'll try any other being that straddles the two worlds.
BC: As long as it has a beating heart.
SA: You have to remember, they've been trying for centuries. They're constantly improvising their recipes in hopes of finding that one magic element that will make it all happen. Idiots. Excuse me.
Got it now ? No , I don't either

Alexander Skarsgard In A Dress, Anna Paquin's Sexier Look & More: We've Got 'True Blood' Style Secrets!
From MTV
One thing we've always loved about Alan Ball's titillating tale of Bon Temps and its supernatural beings is the series' fine attention to detail—did you notice that clever "Sorry, We're Dead" sign hanging outside vampire Eric's Fangtasia bar last week? This keen eye extends to virtually every corner of HBO's drama, including its fierce fashions.
We got the chance to chat with "True Blood" costume designer Audrey Fisher who spilled on Alexander Skarsgård's cross-dressing moment, where she shops for the cast's fashions (hint: K-Mart!) and the inspiration for newcomer Evan Rachel Wood's '40s-glam look.
HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: During last week's "True Blood," Alex appears in one of Lafayette's delusions wearing a dress. Did it have to be specially made for him? He's a pretty big guy. I can't imagine it was ready to wear!
AUDREY FISHER: Actually, no! We were able to buy larger sizes of Lettie Mae's outfit, which fit just fine with a few alterations. I love putting Alex in all of these delusional outfits: first Andy, then Lettie Mae. Who's next?
