Evan Rachel Wood returns to her roots to do a fundraiser for her father’s NC theater

If you live in Raleigh, North Carolina you can go see Queen Sophie-Anne in Romeo and Juliet..pretty cool and help raise money for the theatre !

RALEIGH, N.C. — Evan Rachel Wood has a starring role in the soon-to-be-released Woody Allen film and guest-stars in “True Blood.” She’s got a racy photo spread in the latest issue of GQ, and she hopes to play Mary Jane in the Broadway production of “Spider-Man.”

So why did the 21-year-old Raleigh native return home starring as Juliet in six performances of “Romeo and Juliet” (starting Friday) as a fundraiser for Theatre In The Park, which her father manages?

“It was where I started,” the actress said in an interview between rehearsals last week. “I wouldn’t be an actress, I wouldn’t be who I am if this place wasn’t here. I wanted to do something to give back to it, to somehow repay it for what it gave to me.”

'To Love is to Bury' the title song for True Blood Season One Episode Eleven

I recently did a Season 2 Spoiler show for my Blogtalk radio show, where we looked at what we might know about the upcoming episode by knowing and examining the title song for that episode.

I can't tell you how many emails I received from folks saying they felt so stupid for not realizing that the True Blood episodes were named for songs. It's OK but I thought it might be a good idea to look back at the song, the artist and the lyrics for each of last season's episode title songs.

So let's look back to Season 1, Ep 11 'To Love is to Bury' which originally aired November 16, 2008
'To Love is to Bury' is from the Cowboy Junkies' album the Trinity Sessions from 1998, their second album.

The album was recorded at Toronto, Ontario's Church of the Holy Trinity on November 27, 1987 (1987-11-27), with the band circled around a single microphone. The album includes a mixture of original material by the band and covers of classic pop, rock and country songs, including the band's most famous single, a cover of The Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane", based on the early version found on 1969: The Velvet Underground Live, rather than the well-known studio version from Loaded. Also included is "Blue Moon Revisited (Song for Elvis)", which is both a cover and an original, combining a new song by the band with the pop standard "Blue Moon".

The band was formed by three siblings from the Timmins entertainment family.
Another sibling, Cali, rose to fame as an actress on Ryan's Hope. (The Timmins siblings are descendants of Noah Timmins, a mining prospector who founded the Ontario city of Timmins.) Cowboy Junkies formed in Toronto in 1985.

Lyrics
I buried him down by the river
'cause that's where he liked to be
And every night when the moon is high
I go there and weep openly

He and I were married
By this river 'neath this willow tree
And with God and friends witnessing it
He pledged his life to me

To me he was Earth
And I rooted in his soil
I to he was Sky vast and free
Of the burdens from which he toiled

Then one night a terrible fight
Words spoken better left unsaid
With his wedding vows ringing in my ears
He gave his life to me

They say to love is to bury
Those demons from which we all hide
But tonight by this river 'neath this willow tree
Becoming one of Earth and Sky

From Publishers Weekly
Ever since Harper Connelly survived a zap from a lightning bolt, she's been able to find dead people, a skill that makes the protagonist in the first installment of Harris's new series a tad more bizarre than the mind-reading heroine of the author's Sookie Stackhouse books (Dead as a Doornail, etc.). Harper travels to the Ozark town of Sarne, Ark., to find a missing teenage girl's body, accompanied by her stepbrother, Tolliver, who acts as her manager and bodyguard and with whom she shares a thinly disguised physical attraction that they manage to keep at bay by engaging in casual sex with various partners. Finding the body takes no time at all, but leaving town afterward isn't so easy. When Harper's life is threatened and Tolliver ends up in jail on trumped-up charges, it quickly becomes apparent that something sinister is going on in Sarne. Harris delivers a knuckle-gnawing tale populated with well-developed, albeit edgy characters. A nifty puzzle toward the end will challenge the most jaded mystery buffs.

Blood Copy True Blood Season 2 :SPECTACLE

Great pains have been taken to try and convince humans they shouldn’t fear us. That the invention of Tru Blood assures that no vampire will ever again target a human for his source of sustenance. Fortunately, this is true in most cases. But some vampires have proven more stubborn with regards to their old habits, though in fairness, plenty of humans have developed a taste for our blood, as well.

The result is, although most have no reason to believe a vampire will harm them, some continue to be afraid. To see us as dangerous. Yet, as so often happens, this danger also opens the door to a kind of fascination. An interest in what vampires can do. An interest in how our abilities make us unique members of society, and how we are attempting to fit in despite them.

It’s little surprise then, that humans are making greater efforts to film us. Some of these are spectacle driven, depicting physical feats, some show how humans themselves have made alterations due to our existence. As I understand it, one television program has even been created starring a vampire character.

I look forward to seeing more and more of these as time goes on. I suppose I should say that these will help my attempts to witness the human vampire social experiment, but more because they somehow remind me of my own attempts to understand vampires through videos in my human days.

So I hope you’ll join me for this new entertainment.

Vampires and Werewolves: BEWARE!

Manion’s International Auction House has placed a plethora of interesting items up for bid in their nearly four decades in business, but a recently consigned item is of particular interest . . . to the undead!

At first glance, it looks to be an antique jewelry box, but a lift of the lid reveals an odd assortment: single shot revolver with silver bullets; vials containing holy water, wolf’s bane, and other peculiar potions; a collection of crucifixes, a sharpened stake, and additional artifacts intended to strike fear into “creatures of the night.”

“Apparently kits like these were sold to travelers to Eastern Europe in the 1800s and towards the turn of the century,” said Manion’s representative Andrew Turner. “I suppose one could say they worked fairly well as vampire and werewolf encounters are rare in modern day.”

A similar kit sold with Sotheby’s for $12,000 in 2003.

“The Internet is full of opinion,” said Turner. “Judgments are made as to whether or not these kits, constructed to slay imaginary creatures, are authentic or replicas – the entire conversation is quite a quandary.”

Turner views the kit as a piece of decorative art which would be of interest to an eclectic collector. It exhibits superior construction, and the quality of the artifacts are significant - in addition to their vampire and werewolf connection.

“Whether or not you believe in the existence of vampires and werewolves, you have to admit: this is a pretty neat piece,” said Turner. “If I had a few thousand dollars to spare, the first bid would be mine.”

The reserve price for the kit has been set at $3500 in addition to a 15% buyer’s premium. Photos and additional information can be viewed by visiting the company’s website – www.manions.com – and clicking the appropriate banner in the center of the page. The auction will close May 26, 2009

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Alan Ball’s True Blood series works well for television, as it has enough sensationalism to tantalize and enough story girth to make the viewer care about the characters. That one can finally invest emotion into monsters, including an undead Civil War victim, a transformer who can shapeshift into various animals, and a female mind reader, speaks volumes about America’s willingness to accept fantasy. Of course, television has always produced good fantasy shows (I Dream of Jeannie), but True Blood’s Southern Goth brand of fun horror is more macabre and more perverse, not to mention gorier, than most shows of its kind to date. Adapted from Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels, True Blood thrills because of its equal blend in each episode of erotica, humor, tragedy, mystery, and fantasy.

Set in a rural, swampy Louisiana parrish, the show centers around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her clan, sweet grandmother Adele (Lois Smith) and air-headed brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten). Illicit love is spawned early on, when Sookie saves vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) from having his blood stolen in the parking lot of Merlotte’s diner, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) who completes what will form a complex love triangle. As tensions between Sookie’s suitors loosen or tighten, many side plots, such as her African American best friend Tara’s (Rutina Wesley) struggle with an alcoholic, Bible-thumping mother and her brother’s dangerous crush on drug addicted hippie, Amy Burley (Lizzy Caplan), keep one wondering who will succeed in this podunk place. The main tension throughout, however, is a race war waged between vampires and humans. As murders of “fang bangers” occur (human girls who let vampires bite them) and dumb policeman Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) fails to find clues, one sees the metaphorical implications of vampirism and feels deeper resonance with what can be a downright trashy show. Gossip galore, especially about what kinds of babies interbreeding will produce, is rampant. One of the funniest characters is Tara’s flamboyant cousin, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), who deals drugs, works as a fry cook, and services the local white politicians, while making sure he’s always up in everyone’s business.

What makes True Blood smarter than pure soap opera is the parallels it draws between its monster mash and actual, familiar societal problems. Sookie and her friends watch the news, where Evangelicals bash vampires and prohibit mixed marriage, and everyone is addicted to V, a.k.a vampire blood, that effects like psychedelic heroin. Even its gore reflects a mix of serious and silly, as vampires explode into red, sticky goop. Though it may not be attempting to qualify for the best vampire footage ever shot, True Blood is as addictive as that substance the town’s youth obsesses over, which is a metaphor in itself. --Trinie Dalton

First look: 'True Blood' season 2 poster and first 3 episodes.

from Entertainment Weekly

Sink your teeth into this exclusive first look at the official new key art for True Blood's 12-episode second season, which kicks off June 14.

To further whet your appetites, here are the official titles and (somewhat spoilery) loglines for the first three episodes...

June 14: “Nothing But the Blood”
A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.

June 21: “Keep This Party Going”
Sookie is forced to cope with Bill’s obligations to Jessica, as well as the romantic inconveniences the teen vampire’s presence creates. At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes a favorable impression on its ambitious leaders, Steve (Michael McMillian) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), though not on his jealous roommate Luke (Wes Brown). Maryann casts her spell on Merlotte’s patrons, and Sam proves helpless to stop the revelry.

June 28: “Scratches”
When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her. At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect’s anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises. After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

Can't. Bloody. Wait.
