True Blood's Sam Trammell Previews Sunday's Finale

True Blood's Sam Trammell took a cue from his character Sam Merlotte's recent antics when he joined stars like Renee Zellweger, Mark Harmon, Sofia Vergara, Adam Sandler and Sally Field at the Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon Friday in Los Angeles. "Sam's been a pushover for two seasons, and this year he finally decided to stop taking it," Trammel, who attended the event in memory of his grandmother, told TV Guide Magazine before helping to answer fundraising phones. "Cancer is a disease that doesn't discriminate. Everyone knows at least one person who has had the disease, or they've had it themselves. It's time we stop taking it and kick this disease's butt. The money we're raising tonight is a good start."

True Blood's Rights and Wrongs

True Blood has had a funny season, hasn't it? At times it dazzles with wonderful characters and pure fun, and at other times it simply plays into its critics' complaints about it being too scatterbrained. For every person who claims to be the biggest fan of the show, there's another one-time fan who can't stomach the show anymore.
At times I've called the current season (the finale airs Sunday) the best season of the show and at other times I've called it the worst. Why is this happening? Because like every sentence in this article has implied so far, True Blood has been both good and bad this season. Let's review what went well and what went wrong.

Good: Some great new characters
Franklin Motte (James Frain), the psychotic freelance vampire, injected the right amount of crazy into the season, and Alcide (and his shirtless bod) made women (and some men) swoon.
Bad: Those characters were let go too soon
Just when Franklin won over everyone's hearts, a few wooden bullets went through his. Splish splash, a vampire guts bath. And Alcide and the rest of his werewolf friends completely disappeared towards the end of the season. I thought this was the Season of the Wolf? Here's hoping they'll be back for the season finale.

'True Blood' Season Finale: What You Need to Know

True Blood's season finale airs on Sunday, wrapping up a summer of unfortunate kidnappings, unexpected deaths, and unanswered questions

What do you need to know to enjoy the episode, and what can you expect to happen during the finale?

'True Blood' vs. 'Mad Men': Which Deserves More Acclaim?
First, a recap of the season's plot so far: Werewolves exist, some werewolves are at the beck and call of a high-up vampire, Russell, who long ago killed Eric's family. Eric plots for revenge while Tara escapes an amusing but psychopathic vampire kidnapper and Sookie fights off Bill's persistent ex. Then Sookie realizes she is a fairy, with blood that functions as vampire sunscreen, thus making her extremely desirable to all vampires. Arlene discovers she is pregnant, unfortunately not by Terry but by serial killer Rene. Jason falls in love with a were-panther/dynastic-meth-dealer. Lafayette falls in love with Jesus (a guy, not the God-figure--probably), and both explore their magical backgrounds through the use of enjoyable but illegal drugs. Jessica and Hoyt seem to be reaching a rapprochement, though Hoyt's mama will fight it by all means necessary.

'True Blood': Jace Everett on the songs that will begin and end Season 3

When one hears "Bad Things," the theme song to HBO's "True Blood," it sticks with you. Not only does it frame the series well, but the deep, haunting voice is hard to put out of your head. Jace Everett is the man who owns that voice.

And when the show approached him, his country music career was ready for the jolt. He had previously been signed with Sony and after releasing an album with them in 2005, the label dropped him the next year.

"So really what was going on with me before ['True Blood'] was not a whole damn lot," Everett tells Zap2it. "I was working really hard and making very little money."

The best, saddest and goriest 'True Blood' deaths

In just three short seasons (only 12 or 13 episodes a piece? Can't we get a full 22 HBO? Come on!), "True Blood" has maimed, murdered, massacred, blown up, disemboweled, decapitated and basically eviscerated so many men, women and cats, that I find it hard to believe anyone is left standing in the South.
Thankfully, the lambs are still lining up for the slaughter and this Sunday's season finale promises to add a couple more hash marks to "True's" death tally. But until we find out who gets dispatched to that great Bon Temps in the sky, I thought it might be fun to take a look back at the ten most super-lative death's "True Blood" has delivered thus far.

All Hail Denis O’Hare, the Vampire King of True Blood

Denis O’Hare, who plays Russell Edgington, the 3,000-year-old vampire king of Mississippi, galloped into this season of True Blood on horseback in a crested blazer, charming us with his luscious accent, old-world manners, and mercurial megalomania. With only days remaining until the season finale, Vulture talked to O’Hare about how Haley Barbour inspired his accent, why Sookie should take a page from Queen Victoria, and why Edgington is the show's true hero.
How did you get involved with True Blood?
Funnily enough, I was a big fan of the show and had been watching it —
along with everybody else — and had never imagined that I would be on it. You kind of look at shows and think, Oh, I wish I had done that one. But I didn’t really see myself on True Blood. Sam [Trammell] has that [Sam Merlotte] part taken, he’s great at that. I can’t play Ryan's [Kwanten] part. The Magister is a friend of mine, Zeljko Ivanek. I was like, I could play that part, but Zeljko’s doing it. I was in Budapest doing a movie called The Eagle when I got a phone call from my agent. He said, ‘How would you like to play the vampire king of Mississippi?’ I said, ‘Yes! Yes.

Alan Ball says thanks to fans

Dallas Morning News -Sunday's finales

This does not make this Dallas very happy.....True Blood, HBO's contribution to vampire-mania, introduced werewolves to the bloodsucking mix this season. With shape-shifters like Sam and now the revelation of Sookie's true identity as a fairy (or faerie), it's quite a hodgepodge of supernatural creatures. Perhaps a mummy riding a unicorn can trot through the show.
Neither the writing nor the acting on True Blood is very good. It's an after-dark soap opera with nudity and gore. (The CW's Vampire Diaries is proving you don't need either to make a great vampire-centric TV show.) In tonight's "Evil Is Going On," Sookie "contemplates a life free of vampires," but at this point, I'm just considering TV viewing free of True Blood.

Campblood.org presents “Talbot” by Derek Northman

Joe Manganiello Interview

Most actors prefer to play complex characters, but relatively few are given the opportunity to play a character that embodies two different species. Actor Joe Manganiello (pronounced MAN-ga with a hard g nel-lo) has given a lot of thought to playing construction worker/werewolf/potential Sookie Stackhouse suitor on the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series TRUE BLOOD, created and produced by Alan Ball from the Southern vampire books by Charlaine Harris. “I think it makes things a little bit more complex, and I think with the fact it is a shapeshifter and the fact that they only shift into one animal, there are a lot of those traits that at any point in time are present. I think there’s kind of a sliding rule between human and wolf. At any point in time, they can exhibit qualities of both.”

That said, on the TRUE BLOOD series, Manganiello shares the role of Alcide with a real live wolf who plays the character when he’s in animal form. “His name’s Thunder – he’s a big gold timber wolf,” Manganiello says of his canine counterpart. “They let me meet him and put my hand out and he licked my hand and then he started staring at me with his yellow eyes.”

The best and worst of 'True Blood' Season 3

There's no best way describe this wildly weird season of "True Blood." There have been witches, dogfighting, kidnapping, werewolves and Alfre Woodard. So in preparation for the Season 3 finale (9 p.m. Sunday, HBO), we've pinpointed the best and worst of the year. Think of it as the Emmys meets the Razzies (the "Bloodies"?). And the awards for "True Blood" Season 3 go to.

Best New Character
Russell Edgington. All hail the King of Mississippi! "True Blood's" villains make the most compelling characters (we even warmed to Season 2's Maryann eventually), and Russell didn't disappoint. Alternately ruthless and witty, the power-hungry vamp (Denis O'Hare) stole every scene he was in. He's the most vicious vampire we aren't ashamed to love.

In polite company, people look askance when I mention a particular guilty pleasure involving Southern gothic storytelling and vampires.
Perhaps they confuse me with someone who cares about "Twilight."
No, my guilty pleasure is "True Blood," which concludes its third season at 7 p.m. Sunday on HBO.
"True Blood" is much more than sexy, although it is certainly that. And it's much more than violent, although, yes, there is that. On occasion, it's more than a campy treat, although often, that's quite enough.
This blood-soaked satire also weighs in with political allegory. Arguments over the Vampire Rights Amendment, the evangelical Christian crusade against Transylvanian immigrants, and certain recent hate crimes in and around Bon Temps, La., come to mind. A football jock juiced on "V" (vampire blood, a narcotic for humans), a couple using "V" to trip into an altered state, and underground dealings in "V" provide commentary on modern drug culture.
