'Moonlight,' is resurrected and paired with 'Vampire Diaries'e

I'm excited about this ...

Vampires are so hot right now that the CW is even resurrecting one that was already dead. Well, technically undead, but killed off its original network.

"Moonlight," which aired its first and only season on CBS in 2007, will premiere in reruns on the CW on June 3. That'll fill a void, perhaps, with "Vampire Diaries" fans who will run out of new episodes of that original show next week and might never have seen the older series. (Though, demographically, CW fans might be more apt to turn to the new season of HBO's "True Blood," coming back for its third season June 13.)

The CW is pairing "Moonlight" with repeats of "Vampire Diaries" on Thursday nights. The former CBS drama stars Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St. John, a private investigator who happens to be immortal and works to help the living (rather than sucking the life out of them).

Whether it's just the hard-core existing fans who show up, or a whole (younger) set of viewers latch onto "Moonlight," it will be a limited-time fixation. O'Loughlin stars in a CBS pilot, the remake of "Hawaii Five-O," that looks like a lock for the network's fall schedule. So he's booked, Dano.

Having his former show airing this summer, though, could help keep the hunky leading man top of mind before "Hawaii Five-O" launches, and give the CW some synergistic brownie points with its sibling network.

Los Angeles to host bestselling author Charlaine Harris

Earlier this week, Penguin Group released Dead in the Family, the latest and highly-anticipated book in the Sookie Stackhouse Mystery Series by bestselling author Charlaine Harris, a successful mystery and fantasy novelist for over 25 years.

Fans of the hit HBO series True Blood, which is inspired by the Sookie Stackhouse books (AKA The Southern Vampire Series), may be surprised to learn that Harris’ latest book is actually the tenth book in the popular series that follows our favorite telepathic barmaid and amateur sleuth, Sookie Stackhouse, and her cast of vampire and shape-shifter friends through the drama and politics of everyday life in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, where the supernatural is very real, very funny and extremely socially relevant.
For the LA Books Examiner, fan of the books and the TV show, it’s interesting to watch fellow reviewers attempt to squeeze these phenomenally successful books into a single genre or category. Are they paranormal mysteries, science fiction, fantasies, or vampire romances? The truth, however, is that these books are all of those things and more. In fact, for the LA Books Examiner, they’re guilt-free pleasures that anyone can sink their teeth into, whether Dead in the Family is your first taste or you’ve been following the entire series.

Crimes by Moonlight, edited by Charlaine Harris

Crimes by Moonlight is an anthology featuring members of the Mystery Writers of America. It was edited by Charlaine Harris, and the stories are all a mix of mystery and the supernatural.

Like every anthology, this one has its ups and downs. I’m a bit picky about short stories, so only a few of these tales really worked for me. Unless you’re the kind of reader who wants to own every story from one of these authors, I’d suggest checking it out from the library first before you buy a copy.

A breakdown of the individual stories is below.

  • “Dahlia Underground” by Charlaine Harris
Dahlia hunts a group of anti-vampire extremists after their successful terrorist attack on a vampire gathering. This takes place shortly after the conclusion of All Together Dead (the seventh Sookie Stackhouse novel), though you don’t have to be familiar with that book to get the story. As a fan of this world, it was great to see some of the aftermath of the vampire summit in Rhodes. But Dahlia is not that easy to connect with and there were some overly convenient turns in the investigation.

‘Vampire Diaries’ gives Atlanta a special bite

From Atlanta Journal ( we love when these shows are filmed OUTSIDE Los Angeles !)

This is running Monday for my weekly print column:

the-vampire-diaries-cast-pictureIn an episode of “Vampire Diaries” last month, Damon tricked vampire hunter Alaric into helping him save his vampire bro Stefan. Alaric is not happy.

“I know you hate me,” Damon said. “Guess what,” he added in a stage whisper, “Everyone hates me.”

Fortunately, plenty of folks love “Diaries,” which concludes its freshman year Thursday at 8 p.m. The drama instantly became the CW’s biggest program, averaging 3.7 million viewers a week and quickly earning a second season. This bodes well for its future in metro Atlanta, where the drama is produced.

“Vampire Diaries” artfully taps into the current broader vampire craze, capturing that happy medium between the lighter, romantic “Twlight” series and HBO’s edgier “True Blood,” which returns for a third season June 13.

Jace " True Blood- Bad Things " Everett June 8th re-release of Red Revelations album and new tour dates

Wrasse Records has announced the June 8th US re-release of Red Revelations, the critically acclaimed newest album by Nashville bluesman Jace Everett. Everett is currently best-known as the growly and seductive-voiced composer and singer of the HBO hit vampire series "True Blood" theme song, aptly titled "Bad Things." As it turns out, UK fans across the pond have so embraced the series which was being shown on a small satellite channel when Wrasse Records head Ian Ashbridge noticed the huge effect the song had on sales of Everett's previous album. The label scrambled to sign the artist and rush released Red Revelations in the UK and Europe. The results were so impressive that the album is now being re-released in the US through powerhouse Universal Music via Fontana Distribution.

"We researched and noticed that the new album was not released in Europe and quickly arranged to release the album in October 2009, to coincide with the Channel 4 opening of 'True Blood,'" said Ashbridge. "'Bad Things' instantly went on the radio 2 playlist where it stayed for over 6 weeks -- and Red Revelations went on to sell over 50,000 units throughout Europe, over 20,000 alone in the UK." Glowing UK reviews followed in the same fashion as the US press: Colin Hall's four star review in Rock 'n' Reel magazine raves the "Indiana-born, Texas-raised Jace Everett cuts tough sounding, hard rockin' records... moody and atmospheric, his original songs are heavy on big twanging guitars and hurt, impassioned vocals."

Plans are underway for the upcoming US re-launch which will coincide with "True Blood" season three. Red Revelations will feature re-designed packaging for the re-launch. Everett just completed three Scandinavian dates with UK dates, including Ireland and Scotland, immediately following. US tour dates will begin in June.

Red Revelations is the third studio album by Everett, renowned for writing and performing irresistibly charged-up rockabilly tunes such as the opening theme of the Golden Globe-honored HBO series. In addition to the Globe nod, "True Blood" also received a Grammy nomination for best soundtrack. On the eve of its original release, Jace Everett and his band debuted the entire album live in Nashville which was also web-casted, reflecting the deep authenticity of Red Revelations, as well as the star's proven ability to get this close to listeners in recordings and onstage, through his authoritative, cinematic, often sly, and thoroughly distinctive roots-music fusion of blues, rock and country.

The album was produced in part by Chuck Prophet (Green on Red) and in part by Everett, and was originally released as vinyl, CD and digital release on Weston Boys/Haywood Group label.

The "True Blood" complete first-season DVD and Blue-Ray disc, released by HBO, and the soundtrack album on Elektra/Atlantic, both featuring "Bad Things" as the opening song, are currently available at physical and digital retail. A follow-up soundtrack will feature an acoustic version of "Bad Things." Everett is a 2009 BMI Cable Award winner as the composer of "Bad Things." He is also the co-writer of the No. 1 country smash "Your Man," by Josh Turner.

Blood & Guts :Vampire movie posters

Vampire Movie Posters

In the selection of vampire movie posters, we have some classic movie posters such as Dracula (1931), Blood Bath (1966) and The Lost Boys (1987) to some modern day blockbuster hits such as Underworld (2003), Van Helsing (2004) and Twilight (2008).

One thing that is very easy to spot throughout the evolution of vampire movie posters from 1931 to 2010 is the development of designing in a grid (can be identified in the 1960’s and 70’s), allowing the viewers eyes to digest the poster in a shorter period of time and allowing them to focus on the focal points much easier.
