American Vampire Comic #2
I feel like I should offer up a toast to Vertigo, because considering the past twelve months have offered up titles like "The Unwritten," "Daytripper," and "American Vampire," I'd say they're creating some excellent titles for the ages.
Take, for instance, the second issue of "American Vampire." If all we got was the first story by Scott Snyder and Stephen King, I think everyone would have been pleased. 1925 Hollywood is a perfect place for a vampire story, not only because the setting in and of itself is a fascinating one, but because we also get the added metaphor of the Hollywood studios being bloodsuckers in their own right. This issue pushes us right into the aftermath of the fatal party that Pearl attended, beset upon by vampires and then dumped in the desert to die. As Pearl stumbles out of the desert, it's a creepy, ominous moment and it's only the beginning of what's to come.
Pearl's transformation this issue is dreamlike and creepy, and full of hints from Skinner as to just what this evolution of vampire has become. His comparison of the European vampires versus American ones suddenly brings the title of the comic into strong focus, even as Pearl gets her revenge on Chase Hamilton as she gives in to her new nature. Rafael Albuquerque's art snaps strongly into focus here, and he's got a sharp control on his figures. As Pearl and Skinner's reflections warp and weave in the mirror, or when we see Pearl begin her transformation, it serves in sharp contrast to the normal looks of the characters, stretching far away from their normal, every-day looks.

Charlaine Harris and the many lives of Sookie Stackhouse- Portland Oregon
Charlaine Harris, candid and straightforward, didn't need to think twice about how "True Blood," the HBO series based on her Sookie Stackhouse novels, has changed her life.
"I have a lot more money," Harris said. "We haven't really changed our way of life. We're trying hard not to."
Harris and her husband have lived in southwest Arkansas for more than 20 years and have no plans to move. It's been a great place to raise their children, and they enjoy it. Why move if you don't want to?
"I'll tell you what the biggest change has been. There's less time to do anything," Harris said. "I didn't realize the business of being Charlaine Harris would take up so much time."

Harris reads from "Dead in the Family" at 7 p.m. May 12 at Bagdad Theater, 3702 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. Tickets are $26 and include a copy of the book. They're available at Bagdad Theater, Crystal Ballroom, and Ticketmaster.

Vampires and werewolves take over pop culture...once again
It’s inescapable. Turn on the TV, go to a website, or even go to your local library, and these days, you’re bound to see some part of a pop culture phenomenon that’s taken hold of the world over the last two years.
The phenomenon, of course, is the resurrection of vampires and werewolves as pop culture forces.
One can’t walk past a magazine stand without 20 magazine covers featuring the stars of Twilight. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner have become overnight sensations thanks to the popularity of the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, particularly among teenage girls. And their mothers.

True Blood house for sale!
** I've been there 3 times and it's really known as the Ogilvie-Wiener House, I have some great photos of it here
Are you a true blue True Blood fan? Well now you can own a piece of television history!
The beautiful Victorian house featured in the opening credits of the show is currently up for sale. Not only has it been featured on the HBO hit show but it was once known as The Florentine Club where the likes of Ethel Merman, John Wayne, and even Elvis Presley frequented!
It is 7300 square feet historic home that dates back to 1896 and sits on seven lots. The three story structure has a wrap around deck, fifteen foot ceilings and is one of the largest Queen Anne’s available in Northern Louisiana.read on accidental sexiness

Dead in the Family NOT in Kindle format ?
Maybe I’ve been under a rock lately, but I was floored to see that the book (that I already pre-ordered for my Kindle) is no longer available! Apparently Penguin and Amazon can’t reach an agreement on eBook pricing leading to no new Penguin books in Kindle format being released as of April 1.
The hardback version of Dead in the Family is only $9.99 if you pre-order is right now… however the eBook version (that is still showing up in my Open Orders…) was $10.80. I gotta say that I will not be pleased if I’m charged more for a digital copy of a book than what the hardback costs. (Which reminds me… have you read Jennifer’s Were We Actually Promised Cheap eBooks? post because you should!).

What Art Must Have Felt Like & Sookie Stackhouse Book Covers
MondayMacy at 'All Things Said' blog talks about the great Sookie book cover art!
This is another installment on my Sookie Stackhouse book obsession. :P I’m totally in love with the book covers and I haven’t been in love like this–on book covers! It’s art. It’s whimsical. It makes me dream. I think it perfectly captures the mystical world of Sookie Stackhouse. Not terrifying, but not ordinarily safe either. It’s not cartoon, but it’s not realism either. It’s magic. It’s love. If ever I have enough money, I will collect all her Sookie Stackhouse prints.

True Blood and the drama behind " Bad Things " and the music for the opening credit
C.C. Adcock, a New Orleans Jazz Festival presented by Shell favorite, came very close to snagging the opening-credits music on the HBO series "True Blood."
The Times-Picayune
Gary Calamar, music supervisor for the show, told the story to a Sync Up Conference audience Saturday (April 24) at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
As fans of "True Blood" know, the series has one of the best opening-titles sequences currently on the tube.
Hypnotic visuals by Digital Kitchen.
Jace Everett's "Bad Things."
Grr.
"Bad Things" was originally discovered by "True Blood" creator Alan Ball, but was considered just a temporary track as the opening titles sequence neared completion.
"It was a placeholder," Calamar said. "It was my job to find the song."
One of the songs seriously considered for the slot was Adcock's "Bleed 2 Feed," which Adcock had personally submitted for the production's consideration.
"He's a great musician and a great - I don't know if hustler is the right word -- hustler in the best sense of the word," Calamar said.
Alas, "Bad Things" won out.

Vampire Wine
In plenty of vampire lore the description of a vampire tasting blood is similar to a mortal drinking wine. There is a fine bouquet that you find alluring — that first enchanting sip that rolls over your tongue whetting your appetite and the sensual experience of discovering the fusion of fruits, spices and exotic flavors.
It is an activity that needs to be savoured and relished. It takes a mature, evolved palate to really understand the intricacies of imbibing a glass of delectable wine. So it makes sense that true excellence would be produced by creatures that have been around for centuries, the vampires.
I discovered Vampire wine over a decade ago. Ever since then, whenever I have the opportunity to travel, I scour the liquor stores looking for this beloved, luscious, ambrosial liquid. Of course the packaging appeals to my gothic senses and I think the bottles are precious keepsakes, but that is not why I love to drink it. It is the best wine I have ever tasted but — no wonder — they have been making wine for ages. They are bound to do it perfectly.

hahah
We've mentioned that True Blood and Twilight differ substantially in the Twitterverse, but now we can't help but notice a stunning similarity between two of our most fave bloodsucking hunks.
Robert Pattinson has been rockin' the bedhead, messy -chic look forever, and it has totally become one of his signature stud-characteristics, right Twi-hards? Messy hair is to R.Pattz what makeup is to Zac Efron—you never see one without the other.
Enter über-sexy Alexander Skarsgård, who's on the cover of fashion mag V Man looking perfect as usual.

Truly, Madly, Deadly: The Unofficial True Blood Companion by Becca Wilcott
I'm sure you've all pre-ordered our friend Becca Wilcott's new True Blood companion book ( Note* there are folks mentioned in this book that YOU know ;-))
Truly, Madly, Deadly: The Unofficial True Blood Companion by Becca Wilcott (Book release date: June 1, 2010)
Editor’s Description
This companion to the wildly popular HBO series True Blood is at once an introductory guide to the first two seasons of the vampire saga and a treasure trove for the legions of true believers who follow the show. Created by Alan Ball, the Oscar-winning writer of American Beauty and creator of HBO's cult ensemble sensation Six Feet Under, True Blood surpassed The Sopranos as the largest-ever audience for a cable show at more than 12.4 million viewers a week. It has revitalized the career of Oscar-winner Anna Paquin and has introduced international audiences to Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, and Ryan Kwanten and an extensive, award-winning cast. Exclusive interviews, in-depth biographies of cast members, an episode guide, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes flesh out the fictional characters as well as the actors who inhabit the roles. Some of the underlying themes of the series—such as the politics of race, sexuality, and gender—are explored, and chapters on paranormal phenomena and the literary and cinematic histories of vampires are also included. In addition, this analysis offers an introduction to author Charlaine Harris, whose popular Sookie Stackhouse novels were the inspiration for the television series, as well as a discussion of the role of the fan base and social media in the phenomenal rise of this television sensation.

Greatest Vampire Stories of All Time
These printed works tell amazing and timeless vampire stories, many coming with pictures.
1. Dracula : This classic book was the basis for all of the greatest vampire stories of all time. Printed in 1897, it was written by the now legendary Bram Stoker. Told in a series of letters, it follows the exploits of the then unknown Count Dracula. Much like the characters in “Twilight,” this vampire also forms a connection with a young woman named Mina that carries repercussions for all involved. Want to know more? Then read the entire thing at no charge on Google Books.
2. Sookie Stackhouse : Those who don’t read much probably know this great vampire story better as its television counterpart “True Blood” on HBO. Charlaine Harris began this vampire phenomenon by following the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress from the South who is awakened to both the adult and supernatural world and falls in love with a vampire. Charlaine also has other books, bur for those who truly enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse series you can get both the Last Bite and Wake The Dead podcasts.
3. Anne Rice : This author is perhaps best known for the book “Interview with the Vampire,” which was later turned into a film starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as Lestat. Other books of hers that became films include “Exit to Eden,” “The Feast of all Saints,” and “Queen of the Damned.” Her site is full of updates, previews, information on new releases, and more. You can also follow her on Facebook.

A Drop of True Blood ..drip, drip !
I really like this idea of this little stories outside the main events...
Alright you True Blood fans, if you are anything like I am, you are anxiously awaiting Season 3 in June. However, creator of the series, Alan Ball is a generous soul and has come up with a "taste of True Blood" to help tide us over until then.
While details on the mini-episodes are a bit sketchy, the trailer alludes to what viewers will see every Sunday, starting May 2nd on HBO. Check it out!

Four Great Cruises for Vampire Fans
Anyone want to go to Romania ?
The movies Twilight and The Vampire's Assistant, the television shows "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries," the band Vampire Weekend, the Hot Topic stores that sell vampire attire, the new "X-Men the Vampire Slayers" comic book series, the new book "Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"... and the list goes on. Earlier in the year, we thought 2010 was set to be the Year of the Cougar, but we may have spoken too soon. Whether you are bitten by the vampire bug or yearning to put a stake through it's undying heart, you cannot deny this pop culture trend's influence as it has now seeped its way into the cruise industry.
Recognizing the trend, Cruise Critic has put together a list of the best cruises for vampire-lovers. So if your clients are eager to go "vamp" as they travel, consider the itineraries below.
The Alaska Twilight Cruise and Convention at Sea
Passengers will be able to meet stars from the Twilight movies— including Alex Meraz ("Paul" in Twilight), Michael Welch ("Mike Newton" in New Moon) and Jodelle Ferland ("Bree" in the upcoming movie Eclipse)— pose for photos with the actors and enjoy a costume ball. The cruise operator is providings an additional three-day tour to Forks, WA, where the story is set, before the cruise departs.
River Cruise to Romania, Visit Dracula's Castle in Transylvania
Looking for a "real" experience with vampiric history and folklore? Take a trip to Transylvania on an Eastern European river cruise into Romania with Viking River Cruises' Eastern European Odyssey River Cruise, and add on a trip to Brasov for a tour of "Dracula's Castle," officially Bram Castle, which once belonged to Vlad the Impaler.

Cloe Moretz talks vampires and "Let me in "
Let Me In is a Hollywood remake of the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In (2008), with Moretz cast as Abby, an ages-old vampire who befriends a lonely, bullied boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee).
"It was really fun to play Abby," Moretz says, "because she's such a unique vampire. She's the kind of vampire that nowadays you don't really see. Interview with the Vampire and movies like that, they glamorised the vampires. But in Let Me In in playing Abby, I made it a lot rougher. It's not glamorous. It's not a cool thing to be a vampire."

Stephen Moyer Says "I'm a Venice-zuelan."
There are social networks for meeting people, and then there are TV networks – and Stephen Moyer credits the latter with hooking him up with his fiancée, True Blood costar Anna Paquin.
"It's HBO's fault," the British actor, 40, tells Details in its May issue. "They put us in the same hotel" – though in not the same room, at least "not to begin with," he adds.
"No, I'm joking. They put us in these hotel suites, and we hung out for a while and got to know each other. The attraction was there, so it was a matter of whether we acted on it or not.

How to Catch and Keep a Vampire by Diana Laurence
Who needs a book on dating a vampire?
Well, Bella Swan and Sookie Stackhouse to name just two. They are fortunate to have vampire boyfriends. But what the heroines of Twilight and True Blood don’t have and could use is some advice on getting along with them. Everything they and every other red-blooded American girl (and guy) wants to know about finding a dreamy blood-drinker and keeping him is within How to Catch and Keep a Vampire: A Step-by-Step Guide to Loving The Bad and the Beautiful. And who better to introduce mortal readers to the world of dating a 21st century vampire than a few mouth-watering immortals? The cast includes: Ethan, with his aquamarine eyes and supernaturally seductive piano playing. Mordred, classically cruel, dark, and handsome, with a thing for black leather gloves. His entrancingly cute carrot-topped friend Adam, as sweet as Mordred is scary. Gunnar, with his rich, golden hair, and dastardly but delightful knack for getting his way. The experienced and fascinating Colin, with his exquisite latte-colored skin and exotic beauty. The eccentric but gorgeous Aidan, purveyor of ancient magic. And enigmatic Conner, with his deep, dark eyes and protective soul. These undead charmers will win the hearts and minds of readers everywhere, and author Diana Laurence will be their expert guide.
