Lo- lo Bromios, Lo -lo Dendrites, Lo -lo Eleutherios, Lo -lo Enorches, Lo -lo Bacchus

Whew - Greek mythology we should have spent the Spring boning up on it ..With a little help from Wikipedia we get the Lo-Lo names and where that name comes from. Here are the appellations of Dionysus:

Another epithet was Bromios, "the thunderer" or "he of the loud shout".

As Dendrites, "he of the trees", he is a powerful fertility god.

Eleutherios ("the liberator") was an epithet for both Dionysus and Eros.

Other forms of the god as that of fertility include the epithet Lesbos Enorches ("with balls" or perhaps "in the testicles" in reference to Zeus' sewing the babe Dionysus into his thigh, i.e., his testicles).

An Epithet (from Greek ἐπίθετον - epitheton, neut. of ἐπίθετος - e pithetos,) is a descriptive word or phrase accompanying or occurring in place of the name of a person or thing, which has become a fixed formula. It has various shades of meaning when applied to seemingly real or fictitious people or divinities.

I can't wait to find out who or what this "god that comes" is. I just have no idea where they are going with this horned-god (AKA Satan???) thing. Maryann (Callisto) was not a devil-worshiper in the book!

The Horned God isn't really Satan. In Wicca and stuff the Horned God does rule the Underworld but isn't Satan. There are some similarities between The Horned God and Satan so that is why people think he is Satan. I think Maryann is a Maenad that not only worships Dionysus but also the Horned God. I dunno, I guess I am rambling now lol. But, there has to be some sort of connection between Dionysus and the Horned God and Maryann.. I just can't figure it out.

Apparently Maryann is a Maenad which is a follower of dionysus. Thank goodness for Wikipedia! ha! This is crazy!

oops maybe I should have read all the comments first! ha!! Miss Malice already said that! I've read online though that some believe Dionysus to BE satan.

Satan is not part of greek mythology folks; it's part of christian mythology. The horned god predates christianity; so Satan is not coming to visit Maryann and her followers.

Read Narnia. They were in the second book.

"The maenads apparently attempted to pacify and control their god through role impersonation as his mothers, nurses, and ultimately...when ingested, the child would have grown to manhood and the former nurses would become the god's brides..."46. At the end of the wintertime "Dionysian period" ---- marked by the festivals of Anthesteria and Agrai, followed in Periclean times by the Katagogia and Apollonian advent in the Delphic month of Bysios47 --- pithoi, stamnoi, or amphorae used as secondary fermentation vessels would be drained, with much of the wine given in libation, some imbibed, and the rest stored for future ceremonial use. The rites of Anthesteria fulfilled part of a cycle, allowing the fullgrown Lord of Souls to return to the underworld with his ghostly hosts, after his wintertime "nurses" had fulfilled a new duty as bridesmaids.48 The Lenaia wine ceremony was a mystical duty performed by the Gerairai of Athens on behalf of Dionysos, the overlord of inebriants.49The mystical nature of the ritual is verified by the presence at the Lenaia of the Eleusinian Dadouchos, who aided in the salpinx-summons of the god by leading the cry, "summon the god: Son of Semele, Iacchos, bestower of wealth!".50 The promise of rebirth from death was inherent in these ceremonies, which were conducted at the only time in the Greek year during which marriages were performed ---- foreshadowing the conception of new bodies for the summoned spirits.51 The dual rituals of Lenaia and Limnaia forged a link between the realm of the living and that of the dead, one which clasped the beginning and end of the Dionysian season together elegantly: Both ceremonials intimately connected the shapeshifting mythos of Dionysos with the life-cycles of his mortal worshippers.

Maryann praised Dionysus. Maenads were Dionysus severs. And after Sookie knocked down the meat, fruit tree offering thing, Maryann said "I failed you Dionysus" or something close to that. But they were also praising a "the horned god", which has to do with Wicca. Dionysus doesn't have horns. I don't understand who Maryann serves in the show True Blood.
